The Train Station.........

Kelley (Texas)

New member
While making a trip to Floresville, Texas today, I took this picture of an old train station. It is located at it's original site, but the railroad tracks have been removed and the rail bed has been turned into a jogging trail. Kelley (Texas) :)

Really nice station. Looks to have been relatively kept up over the years. Wonder what one would find with a X-5, or, similar trash coil going over that site?

Whew! You do good work, Kelley.

about this old train station. This has not been confirmed and verified yet, just told to me over the telephone, but I am going to research the history of the old station and will post an update when done. Evidently the train station was built sometime around the 1870's or 1880's and closed down in the 1960's or there abouts. It was sold to some ranch, relocated to the ranch and used as a storage building on the ranch. In 2004, the City of Floresville bought it back from the ranch, and placed it back on the original site. It was then restored to the original condition as you see it in the picture that I posted. They did have to make a few minor changes because some of the original type material was no longer available. Like I said, I will research the train station and when I get all the information, I will update and pass the information on to you folks if you are interested. Kelley (Texas) :)

Yep, Kelley, I am interested! Already it is a great story. Happy that the City of Floresville was so committed to restoring that landmark, that had been there from the 1870's. It is a beaut.

Nice station. We have one in Plymouth michigan thats been turned into a restaurant. And of course you know about the "BIG' one in Detroit that is a shambles. I think it is the Michigan Central train station. I will try to find it online and post a link to it here.........nge

As promised here ya go. There are many articles on this station, just follow some of the links. And yes I did hunt the lawns there with about 25 other detectorists, it is a very dangerous area of town to be in, druggies, killers, and all sorts of ne'er do wells, also bums wanting everything you find...nge

Did it ever become a new police station? What is the latest story about it? Kelley (Texas) :)

No, the department is so broke, it is laying off Police officers, fire personel, and EMS techs. Thieves, gangs, and ne'er do wells are taking over the city and they won't do anything about it. I don't live in Detroit, but I do live on the western border with it, and all that crap is overflowing onto my side of the street......waaaaaah........nge
