The SunRay Whites Invader XL-1 probe will work with the F4,

Old California

The SunRay XL-1 probe will work on the soon to be released F4, The only modification needed is to replace both coil connector plugs or add on two homemade coil adapters, One on the switch box the other on the pig-tail connecting onto the detector housing. A slightly variance on the ID when using the probe will be noticed but it's main purpose really is to pin-point not accurate ID.

The XL-1 operates at 6.592 kHz while the F4 is 6.8 kHz, Close but still enough to get the F4 out in the trenches with an operating in-line probe. I'll get an XL probe soon before the F4's are released so I can switch plugs and have a working F4 in-line probe ready to mount on when the F4 arrives and keep you posted with the results.

I used this approach with my Tekentics Mark 1 so I know it will work just as well on the F4, The F4 keeps getting better :)

Someone mentioned K. Wills having something, & Whites coils also working on the F4? Anyone have info on this? Is there a Bounty Hunter adaptor plug that allows Whites coils to work? Sounds like there will be many, many coil choices for the F4. That right there should make it a worthy choice in a mid-range detector. Especially good for folks who love to complain that units like the ID-Excel don't have small coils.....

Excel with a 4x6DD in heavy iron, frightening thought, Katie bar the door!:starwars:

Yes, I agree the coils designed for a different freq, But they are so close the only difference the ID will read slightly different when using the probe.

My adding on the SunRay probe intended for Whites is merely to get a good temporary working probe going for the F4, I would not recommend others doing this and I do enjoy tinkering with detectors so this comes as a treat for me.

This set-up will work as I've applied this to my Mark 1 which operates off the same coils the F4 will be using, I'll post a pic and results of the setup when the F4 is released.

Yes Bill, An adapter is out there and tough to find and Keith Wills does make them for a small fee.

However, Mr. Bill tried the F4 DD coil on the Tekenitics Mark 1 and the connector will not mount to the Mark 1, I found this problem before with some bounty coils not connecting onto the mark 1 or other like series models and just needed to switch connectors to make it work.

So, I really won't know which connectors will be needed until I have an F4 in my hands to make two adapters or hard wire the correct coil connectors instead. I have plenty of different Whites and bounty hunter coil connectors on hand so I'll have an operable SunRay probe going for the F4 in no time.

Some Whites coils will work on the Bounty hunter series and F4 including the older Tekentics models, I have several coils already on hand that will work great with the F4 including the Whites 6" shooter coil pictured below, Just need to check which coil connector to use and go from there.

The 6" inch Six Shooter Magnum Force search coil below will work fantastic with the soon to be released F4 with an coil adaptor or replacing the coil plug with a bounty hunter type. Will give the same target ID and delivers great depth and separation for a six inch coil.

With the probe, The only difference is target ID will read lower if I remember correctly when switching to the SunRay probe, So if I'm using high disc the probe may not detect a target if the signal is riding on the top edge of the discrimination setting and then switching to all-metal will bring in the signal.

Using low discrimination will enable the probe to work fine only will ID a bit lower, And since the F4 sports a tone feature the tone may vary from coil to probe because of the slightly ID variance.

But, at least it will have an operable SunRay probe until Ralph makes one for the F4 which will operate with most if not all bounty hunter detectors. That would be a good seller for SunRay if Ralph came out with a bounty hunter probe.
