The summer of 05

Hi all:

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who hunts the beaches of Ocean City, Maryland, and the several beach areas in Delaware. During the warm months, April through November, I live in Fenwick Island, Delaware, hunting the beaches twice a day every day. I use a CZ-20, CZ-3D, and occasionally my DFX, although my CZ-20 is my primary machine.

The summer of 2005 was moderately productive based on previous years finds. Among the better items found was: 28 rings,(4 diamond), 7 gold or silver necklaces, 5 bracelets, 5 watches, 12 earrings, hundreds of small toy cars and trucks, many, many items of little or no value, also found 970 quarters, ($250), 860 dimes, ($86), 360 nickels, ($1:geek:, and 1500 pennies, ($15), for a total of $369 in change. In previous years I've exceeded $500, and recovered over 40 rings.

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who hunts these beaches and how you made out this past summer. And from anyone else who hunt other beaches and how you did as well.

During the winter I tend to hibernate waiting for the first warm day of early spring to arrive and a chance get out for a few hours of hunting. Hopefully the summer of 06 will be more productive the 05.

Thanks for reading this,

Hi Steve & Bia:

Unfortunately I do not have the ability to post photos. If I did I could send a very large number of pictures showing my finds. I am interested in knowing if others who work the beaches of Ocean City and Fenwick Island have had similar results to me.

The local forecast calls for some nice weather over the next several days, because of this I'm heading down to the beaches tomorrow to do some late season hunting. Will hunt the surf if I catch low tide. This time of year most jewelry items are in the surf.

I live in the Wilmington, DE area with a summer home in Fenwick Island. Do you live in this area, and where do you hunt? Was this past summer productive for you?

Thanks for responding to my message,

I live next to Dulles Airport where the Dayworker scandal in Herndon Virginia is located.

Although I've been relic hunting for over 20 years, Bia and I have been dry sanding for 2 summers. This is our first summer surf hunting and we started late at that! We've hit Ocean City twice in the last few months and neither hunts have been real good. We're still trying to find something spectacular but most of the time I feel this hobby is overly expensive and I should quit before I get to deep. I don't live at the beach and travelling 3 and 4 hours every weekend, spending thousands on hotels and eating out, is overwhelming at best.

I do plan on hitting Ocean City Maryland this weekend. Maybe I'll see you there. I'll be up around 15th street or so.

Winter is good hunting as well after Noreasters and other storms. Maybe not as many targets as the summer, but I do find gold in the cold!!!

Haven't counted up my 05 finds yet as I'm still hunting, will get you a count in January.

Good luck!
-Rich
