The Sports field

Well , this weekend I was only able to get a couple of hrs. of hunting in at that barren sports field I talked about earlier in Nancy's thread . I used a 950 Eclipse concentric coil rather than the stock 10"DD because I figured the faster pinpointing would give me faster retrieves enabling more time to hunt . I dug every signal as the targets there are far and few between . The numbers and sounds are like my M6 and the finds proved that . The pictures don't look like much but at that location it's pretty easy to get skunked on a two hr. hunt .Even clad is a rarity and high tones are very rare . I like having the threshold and the different programs the MXT has and that awesome night light .All in all it was a very enjoyable hunt . I can't wait to find a new location with more targets . I am so confident this machine is going to bring in the goods . I can finally do a decent picture on this computer .

Dirt Doctor, Looks like you did good at a field that doesn't produce much. I love seeing those nickels rescued. Lot of people cherry pick and leave the nickels behind. I'm guilty of that till I get the other targets and then set my machine to find those elusive nickels. If you keep hunting like that, you'll find yourself a gold ring before you know it. Is that a zinc cent at the top left? It's amazing how the ground chews those things up.

Thanks for sharing and HH, Nancy

Hi Nancy ,

Yup , that is one of those disgusting Zinc pennies . I believe in my detecting career I have dug enough of those to fill a wheelbarrow , always hoping they would turn out to be an elusive Indian , only one has and that was at a beach .It amazes me how at the different stages of their deterioration they have such a variety of sound and Id numbers .Every once in a while I get one that hits a dead on 18-20 like a nickel would .
Which reminds me that it has been a quite a while since I've found a buffalo ( I love finding those ) .

I'm really looking forward to my next trip which I hope will be soon and I hope I find something really cool to post .

Thanks for looking and H H ,
George

George, Time is on your side and you'll find those keepers. The VDI on the Indians always bounce around for me plus they have just a slight different "ting". I don't think I've found many that didn't. Those Buffalo nickels are up there on my "favorite" list. Same with the Indian cents and the reverse on the Barber quarter. They sure made some very beautiful coins back in the day. Our new coins aren't near as pretty. HH!
