The Sovereign GT proves it is worth holding on to.........again

Every year around fall I start to see the new machines coming out and I get the itch to retire the GT and see if I need something else. And every year I take my GT out to an old pounded site for a last hurrah.
It is Like I am taking a sick dog for its last walk behind the shed.
Then BAM! out of nowhere at a site I thought was dried up the GT pulls out a great find.
This time it was a 1908 barber dime. Mt GT followed protocol perfectly and gave me that whisper soft but consistent sweet tone that can never be duplicated in a test garden. You only get those sweet sounds when it is the real deal.
So it is safe to say I will hold on to my GT.

Beautiful find and the GT pulls another Rabbit out of the hat. Gt's tend to do that from time to time. Congratulations

When you say You said that correct as in the Field is where you will hear those sweet tones you can not hear in air test or test gardens, most of these is from experience and knowing your Sovereigns .
Surprisingly what those Sovereign can do in many of the area others considered clean out.

Good find.

nice barber! Hang onto that Sov GT as it is a super sniffing coin machine!

A couple of weeks ago I took my son who was visiting to an area that I had taken a few silver coins out of. Had a gentleman walk across the street and strike up a conversation. He told me that he had covered the two properties completely and had dug all the coins that were in them. I was hesitant to tell him that my GT had sniffed out 9 silver coins in those two properties and I suspected that there might be another one or two. Not to mention the number of dollars in clad that I had cleaned out of the area.

After the gentleman walked back across the street My Son showed up with his first silver find. A 1941 Merc. He was using his new E-Trac. I told him that I had left that one for him. Yeah Right!.

That sweet high tone when the GT coil passes over a silver coin will stop you in your tracks. I sometimes wonder about other detectors but the GT reminds me that it is my first love.

Nice find, the Sovereign is my go to detector and at this time don't see any detector I would use for a replacement.

Nice Barber, congrats! When I think I've cleaned up a productive site with other detectors I always come back with the GT solely to listen for those sweet deep sounds. I'm impressed at its abilities.

I have had probably 7 Sovereigns made up of the different models. Every time I sold one I felt like kicking myself in the behind. Well I finally learned my own lesson. I have one now that I just plan on using until I drop over.

Very interesting read...I just picked up a used GT and will primarily hunt dirt until my vacations in the summer. Hopefully I can learn it's language by then...

UGA when I bought my GT I could not understand what it was telling me. Purchased a meter from "Ron In Michigan". Then I started to learn a little. Even after over two years I am still learning this outstanding machine. Given the opportunity the machine will teach you to love the language that it uses.

I like my GT so much that when I heard they were being discontinued I purchased another for a back-up. I'll never be without a GT in my arsenal.

I also added a second Gt to my meager collection. I cant imagine trying to learn another machine. There may be better machines on the market but my Gt does the job for me.

And I did the same thing. Amazing how easy it is to use the GT in so many different locales!

I know exactly what you mean....

I had the opportunity to detect an OLD farmhouse a few years ago. I found a few items but I knew that there HAD to be something good around the back door. It had a small maybe 6x6 slab outside the door. I detected an area about 10x10 around the area. I used a ML SE Pro ( I didn't have my E-TRAC yet), I used an F-75 and a T-2, a Cortes and a Tejon. If I used anything else, I don't remember but I used all my "best" detectors.. then I decided to give the Sovereign GT a try. I immediately found two 1919 cents, a 1918 cent, and a small diamond ring. There was no 'iffy' to it, a solid sweet repeatable tone and a correct number on the 180 meter.... I cannot explain it but when all else fails, it works at least it did there! It was my first detector and I'll always have it.

It loves gold and silver!

Hi Julian,

Good to see you are still around and like most that get to really know the Sovereign have kept one or got one to keep as we know what they can do. Myself I have tried others too and many are great detectors like the F-75, the E-Trac and some of the others you have tried, but there is something about the Sovereigns that just impresses me with the finds I can find in well worked areas.

Good Luck

Rick

Keep the thread going.
Remind people that the GT is a very viable machine.
I wish they would bring the Sovereign series back.

I wish for this too with it being setup similar to the X-terra series. This way we don't have to hip mount and our "180 dashboard" will be right in front of us. :) A guy can wish can't he?

ALL Sovereigns are viable machines. My Sov XS isn't going anywhere unless I run across a nice GT... and some say the XS is better than the GT.
