The sound of rings

Idaho-Marke

New member
Hi,

I live in a small town and don't get many rings, but I get plenty of pull tabs which I dig hoping for rings. Listening, pull tabs usually break up with a sound somewhat like foil to my ears.

I was wondering if rings sound different than pull tabs. Comments?

Thx

Disc is set as recommended or a little higher. I often run at +1-3. Foil gives me a broken up sound and I'm wondering if rings ring solid if you know what I mean.

While using factory presets most of my rings show up as a sketchy nickel signal, not a ring/pull tab. The 2 - 3 inch solid ring/pull tab signals are usually pull tabs. The 2-5" sketchy nickel signals are usually pretty fun to dig, while solid and sketchy foil signals are usually foil.

I usually run Disc at 2. Rings usually sound solid but have been everywhere on the scale. I've had gold rings from 10 to 57. My pull tabs sound solid not broken up. Many women's rings read as foil. Rob

Good info Rob, I keep diggin those good foil targets but I'm still waitin on a nice womens ring. I'll have to try runnin my discrim on 2, I usually run it on 3 and have my gain on +1. I agree with the sound of the pull tabs, sketchy signals can be a nice pendant, charm or ring.

First I don't want to start a discussion with people who think they can here gold sounds. The MXT losses all modulation in the + range. All targets are loud both shallow and deep. The first detector that can tell you its gold will put all the others out of business.

Look for Treasure Mikes posts. He finds a lot of jewelry and rings and gives his VDI numbers. You will see they are all over the scale. I think in his last post he had a zero and one around 6. You have to dig alot to find the gold. The little bear ring was a 10 the big ring was a 57. Rob[attachment 56981 14kbear2.jpg][attachment 56982 champs2.jpg]

Now isn't that interesting. Sketchy sounds can be a nice pendant, charm or ring so dig it all.

I have a real thin 14k neckless and and I wanted to see what it sounded like with my 4x6 DD. It didn't sound. Nothing. Nada in any mode when sitting directly on it? Should I be concerned that I'm not picken anything up or am I asking to much? It is a thin chain.

My nickels usually read 18-20 but the reading will change with the ground and depth. I've read 16-18-20 and it's a nickel, a solid 20 still a nickel, and I've had deep ones at 22. Bend a tab a little and it will read nickel. I don't know what thin is but thin chains are hard. Again where was your disc? The lower the disc the deeper the detector. The numbers are only a tool and the deeper the target the less reliable the reading. In my ground it is great to 6". Rob

Hi all, I am with rcas1044, I have had gold rings come in as low as 10-12 and as high as 22. I ALWAYS hunt in the all metal mode with no disc and if possible I hunt with the highest gain possible. I got this gold necklace this weekend at a solid VDI 14 with is within the nickel range. I got this gold with ruby and diamond ring a while back at a solid VDI 10-12 They were all solid signals with no chatter. I dig all pull tabs no matter what because a lot of my jewelery finds have come under pulltabs. Like digger on the minelab forum says You never know unless you dig. HH Dennis in Idaho
