The small coils will be a perfect opportunity to

use the new ground analysis technique on the X70.

By this I mean that I would appreciate it if you would measure your ground using the 9 inch CC MF, in the same area you are going to use the small coil(s). For security reasons there are a limited number of field testers that get asked to test the coils. Those testers usually face a finite spread of soil types to test the coils.

I think I can speak for some of the other testers in saying that when given this chance you want to get it right. I can say without reservation that an attitude of "oh boy here's a new toy to go have fun with" is not what one thinks. It's more along the line of "I've been given this responsibility and had better not blow it" because other hobbyist's and the manufacturer are depending on me.

Therefore I think it will be of great interest to the field testers, if before using the small coils you jot down the three top capabilities, or expectations you have, and then see how they measure up to those criteria. I for one am not looking for an approval rating, simply a comparison of my mindset in approaching the testing to better gauge what to look for in the future should I be asked.

At some point I myself will get one of the 10.5 inch DD coils, and it will be interesting to me, to compare my impressions of it, with all the other post-ers that have put in so much time with them.

I hope those that do buy a small coil get out and have some fun with them.

I would only add the word "privilage" to what you said. It will be very useful to see what the impressions of these new coils are once they are in the hands of X-Terra owners in not only different parts of the country but also different parts of the world.

Testing coils in specific parts of the World, in the hands of those who have their own preferences and styles of hunting, do not necessarily represent what others may discover. That has been proven by the excellent follow-up posts on the detectors themselves. The introduction of the small X-Terra coils is a perfect opportunity for everyone to make comparisons. Not only compare the practical application against their expectations. But to also compare what perceptions are in the marketplace.

One "criteria" I would suggest is to not be in a hurry. I remember when I first got the X-Terras to test..... my brother, who I hunt with a lot, took along his "old reliable". A detector that he knows frontward, backward, inside and out. To say I was initially frustrated while watching him dig coins as I made setting adjustments, analyzed sweep speeds, measured depth accuracy, confirmed TID information and took notes, would be an understatement. You can't imagine how many times I was tempted to take another detector from the truck, if for no other reason than to "catch up". But I didn't. And, only by spending countless hours in the field did I learn to appreciate the operational possibilites of the X-Terra. I benefit every day, from practical application and experiences reported on this forum. You folks post ideas and suggestions for the X-Terra that we all learn from. And, in my opinion, sharing information about these small coils will be no different.

So to each of you who will be "trying one out" soon, keep us all in the loop. (no pun intended) Don't rely solely on the information we have provided. We've tried to cover all the bases. But, as we have pointed out, our expectations may differ from yours. What works for us in our part of the World, may differ from where you hunt. Try using different sensitivity settings, adding a more positive or negative GB setting, faster sweep speeds, slower sweep speeds. Who knows? Whatever you do to make your small coils perform best for you, let the rest of us know. Sharing information to make each of us more successful in the field, is what this forum is all about.

Again Bill, excellent idea. Thanks!! And to those of you willing to take the time to share your thoughts, thanks in advance. HH Randy

Have ordered the 6" DD, will be here next saturday.

Expectations.

I have a 1700s park with enormous amounts of trash. However the park have been restored to its original shape using plows and all other heavy machinery. Screwcaps are often deeper the a 1600s hammered coin.

I expect 6" depth at the most but am sure it will find bigger coins deeper. I have great expectations for seperation.

Ground Phases on the 9 stock 7.5 was 00-15-00 to 00-45-00

Update when i get the coil

Old faithful can do magic in its owners hands.

The terra has great potential of becoming an Old faithful with me. Its sturdy, balanced, and deep, versatile( hey, there is no unuseful options), sensitive, Genious menus and easy for anyone to use. I expect that the new coils will add to my list atleast two other praises...

Not all detectors suit me to become Old and faithful.

I still have my Explorer XS...and will keep it.I customized it earlier this year to balance it better. It has found 300 silvers for me..

I have a tejon that might get legs in a few weeks...due to terra 6" coil options.

The terra line must make Minelab proud, they wont be leaving it soon. I Expect more from the manufacturer that keep them coming faster then anyone.
