After the "1600's" hole got rather quiet...(no there's more there deep we know), but we wanted to try the mill area as we had yet to find the mill owners house, etc....
Rob found the mill house right away. We had wandered right by it before...it was in a thicket we never checked. It was super trashy & the ground was still frozen here. So we decided to lay out the finds for a group shot.....

We followed some more walls, but it began to get dark. I suggested we walk up a cart road where we saw some breaks in the stone walls. Usually this is a gate way....& right when we went through I see an 18 ft. deep open colonial well! :beers:
More high-5's, & we see the small cellar hole behind it that it looks like was sorta filled in. But now we know we have some kinda mill village for sure. I ran all metal quick & heard alotta targets. Rob & I were sure to GPS this site for next time.......
As we began walking again GPSing to the car, Eagle eye Rob looks into the woods & sees another barn foundtion from a good distance away in a logging area.....
They posed by it for this picture....
[attachment 21045 BJ5barn.jpg] another area to check.....
We marked these new holes for John as he was sick & couldn't join us. We left plenty there for him I'm sure ;)

We got back by dark, & I took some close ups of my Half dime I will post above......
Hope you enjoyed all the pics.....we all had a blast! :D

Hello BFL Bill L,

Thanks for sharing your hunt with us. I think it would make a GREAT article for submission to one of the TH'ing magazines. Not to fail to mention, your photos make the reader feel like (s)he was there on the hunt with you. :)

Safe Hunting!

Looks like you guys are gonna be busy for a while! That's a nice mix of finds. Try that "O-Luminam Gellie" on that coin. It's a "Solewshion" so it won't hurt it. Great pictures too. I can almost smell the deet!

Since we are "racing progress" that's a good title (& I can begin writing on my new laptop) :)....I wanna take a picture of all the new 1/2 million dollar homes popping up all around this site.....To empasize this is a "rescue mission", & that's why I'm gonna invite all my buddies there with any kinda machine to help clean it out before it's gone forever (heck we even let a Toysoro user go there yesterday, heh, heh) It's funny that the Archies dont' want us detecting around these holes, but they don't have the time to excavate 'em so they rather let them be bulldozed under I guess :stars:
Do I hear CNER$?? (Colonial New England Relic $hootout). I'll only charge $50. a person, & I gaRUNTee more finds than a $200 Dumpo hunt, heh heh :D

Bill,

Nice write up on our excursion - still picking the thorns out of my arms! I have begun my exclusive cleaning process on the 1863 " Fatty" Indian Head. I first washed it with hot soap and water with tooth brush and now have it in "Extra - Virgun" olive oil. Final step is to soak in Hydrogen Peroxide for a few days!!! ;)
