When I was a boy, it seems that everyone rode a Schwinn Bicycle, usually with no fenders or chain guard, and often repainted with a brush. There were some exceptions with some rich kid or nerd kid riding one with a horn or bell, mirrors on the handle bars, and white wall tires, but as a general rule, most were stripped bikes. We have a member of this Forum, Sunny, who told several stories of riding a bike at the old gravel pit near her home in Arkansas, For some reason, when I see an old bike at a garage sale, or estate sale, I often think of Sunny riding her bike at that old gravel pit, holding her own against the boys that also rode there. She has been ill the last few years, but hopefully, she will soon be returning to the Forum.
This link will give the history of the Schwinn Bicycle Company for those of you that might be interested in old bikes. I suspect that Sunny probably rode a bike similar to one that might be described in this history story. Kelley (Texas)
