Yes I know I have not been around alot lately. But I am not sick, I am not dead. We are in the process of building a new home, and what a nightmare this has been. They sold us options like a full length extended patio, that when it came to build it, I found out they never got proper approval through the building department to make that modification. That delayed the house 7 weeks. They installed the 1 1/2 line for the gas line to the pool equipment on the wrong side of the house, then lied and said the county would not allow them to put it on the other side. After I got a letter from the county approving the location, and telling them they were big liars, they moved the gas line, 3 WEEKS LATER! Then they installed the 220 for the kitchen ovens on the wrong side of the kitchen. They had to tear out drywall and move it, 3 MORE WEEKS.

Now we have new furniture coming from all over and no house to put it in. I have had to rent three different storage buildings, I have furniture in the garage of our old home, a new refrigerator in the storage room at the office, two mattresses in the storage room. The waiting room has two large area rugs, and lighting and 8 ceiling fans. It's not even funny. We were supposed to be in the house last October.

So basically I have to go to the house everyday to make sure that they are doing things the way they are supposed to be done.

Hey Doc,

Sounds as though you have the same contractors my daughter had during her remodel.
The sad part of it, is that the contractors try to pass along their mistakes, under the guise of
something else, unless you have been keeping on top of it, with documentation.

I worked in various facets of construction for almost 40 years, and have a pretty good idea when
I think someone is getting snookered by the builder.

I spend day after day taking photos of my daughters remodel progress, emailing the contractor
confronting them with issues, as the job progressed.

I amassed all my notes, photos into a folder, and gave that information to my daughter and son-in-law
when it was time to sit down with the builder and talk about his payoff.

After seeing the folder, the builder said the kids had come in with a confrontational attitude, and that
he felt they were trying to control the situation...HELLO!!!

One thing that bothered me, was the building inspectors don't care how WELL a job is done, only that
it meets the minimum building code. So workmanship can go out the window in many cases, sadly.

Once a shittly (code speak) job is covered up, say sheetrocking, by a good finish man, then you and the
inspector never know if the sheetrock (for example) was applied correctly, the correct sheetrock was used
for that particular application, or if the correct length of screws/nails were used to hang it. And on and on
it can go.

Unfortunately, as I told the kids, there is no one to be an advocate for the people paying for their dream home,
unless they (the home buyers) are very knowlegable in all building aspects, and have a hell of a lot of time on
their hands to keep an eye on the job progress. Again, the city building inspectors could care less about craftmanship.
Not a part of their job.

Some builders have a clause in their contract, that the buyer is not to visit the job site, until it is deemed all right
by the builder. Then they have every opportunity to put the screws to the buyer. Sad but true.

I hope that you can get some satisfactory resolution to your situation, I would guess that you hoped to be in by
Christmas.

I know when things are done correctly and when they are not. I have caught roughly 30 things. In fact I snuck a few things by them.

OH an by the way i have seen DOCs new House...well house is what he calls it .More like a MINI Taj Mahal worth in todays money about 5 million bucks..(gathered from all the tips he gets out of paying)AND i got the plans off the builder i was inpressed that much (wonder how it would look in double brick)( ANd i think its great next time i visit in a couple of years i hope mate you are in it.And i think its great our dollar nearly as much as yours..(for those that dont know it im AUSSIE) When i first took Bernie to the US it was around 50 cents i love it .You lot in the USA have had it to good for to long the pendulum has started to swing..no doubt in about a 100 years it will come back your way...after China and India have had their bash....The only thing i wish was different is the price of petrol(gas)if it were cheaper i be able to drive down to the international airport more offen to vist doc and give him a hand the poor over worked lad...oh well
