I havent gotten out much lately, but the few times I have, I've gotten a few older coins. Mind you, nothing like what Joe, Mike and Phil are diggin. But for me, if I see a wheat, I get excited. Here are the better coins that I have found.....

You sure are brave . My last day of detecting was Jan 1st till spring .

Heck, I can't remember the last time I've dug an old coin. Nice finds!!

I know what you mean about finding wheaties... I pull up a couple of those and I start getting pumped :)
Nice digs J.

I love finding wheats! That always tells me that silver is close by!
Nice digs, all keepers in my book! :)

and some are even older than me.

Most of those wheats were found at a school that is out by itself. In front of the school is a small field area. In that field, there is a little gazebo that has an old bell from the original school building, that I assume was on the same site. When my neighbor and I hunted there, this past spring, he found 3-4 wheat pennies(I was skunked). But I kept going back, and over time I have found 5-6 wheaties there. And I have thought like you, that if there are wheat pennies, then there has to be a silver coin there too! But to date, I still havent found any. I think I will go back with my Tesoro to scan around. It seems to be more stable around iron trash...which there is a lot of.

of the silver could be masked by iron and other trash? Also many of the old hunters used to cherry pick looking just for the silver leaving the rest. I used to find the ratio was about 10 to 1 on the wheats to silver. As I get better I have made that ratio better! :)

I found a steel penny last year laying in the gravel behind our church in an alleyway. I thought it was just oxidized, but it was a steelie! It was just laying on top like it was just dropped(which it may have been)
