About 10 days ago I posted a pic of a pile of gold jewelry that a friend asked me to send to the refinery for cash. I have used this refinery several times and am very happy with them, as are a nuymber of guys on the beach forums. They give you 94 % of the current price of gold - no other charges.
I sent about 3.2 oz - a couple 10 K pieces and the rest 14 K. The check arrived today for $712.00 ! Pretty good for 'aside' gold.

Does your place test / weigh each individual piece or do they melt the lot down no matter what the K of each piece and give the $ based on the final K?

I'll be you know this: What is the margin of "error" allowed on gold content in jewelry? Someone told me that a 14K mark isn't necessary 14K on the button? So, if you sent out a bunch of 14K rings for instance, you might get a lower price because the percentage of gold is lower?

They put all 14 k together - after testing each piece - and melt it down. Then they give you 94 % of the gold price for that day for the weight and karat. Steve

I have about 6 lbs of ear rings, mostly 14KT, I should be getting a pretty nice check for the 5 years of digging and eye balling ear rings. Now, my question is??? I have ear rings with beautiful stones also, diamonds, saphires, topaz, emeralds, etc... are they taken off the gold and return or does one have to take them to a jeweler to have the presious stones removed.

I have some beautiful earings too, and wonder if there is a market for women who are looking for a match to their lost ear rings? Just a thought... Thanks for the info and God bless....HH. Picture to follow of all the ear rings I have found in the years I've been doing the beach and the ear rings I've found.
