the reason not to try to fix the garrett propointer yourself

you did a number on it. what did you try to fix it with.... a sledge hammer? I'd say that one is toast....bummer.

That looks like a disaster! Just toss it.

What exactly was wrong with it in the first place? Do the electronics still work? Can it be put back together with epoxy and tape?

It looks like it was run over by a slow moving vehicle...

Believe some camo duct tape could make it disappear...

gringoo .........My sympathy; a real bummer !... :sadwalk:

Looks to me like some component(s) in the circuitry got over-heated, caught fire and melted the plastic housing.

Were you using a test meter with the wrong setting, or were the test leads hooked-up incorrectly ? Have you figured out what happened ?

it kept going off when its not touching anything, like when the battery is to low, the electronics still work and i can put it back together again but it works sometimes and sometimes it dosent.

it goes off when it touches nothing, very frustrating.

i covered it with silicone to water proof it, it just started to go off all the time for no reason, very frustrating.

Gringo, mine was doing the same thing...they fixed it and said I had a bad coil. I think the charge was $40 for the coil repair which was a whole new body. They could very well fix yours for less than a discounted one. If you send it in they will evaluate it and then let you know if its reparable or not. I think that's when they offer the discount.

Good luck

:stretcher:Rest in piece's!

I drowned mine, pulled it apart, much like yours, to dry it our and stuff flew everywhere. Sent it in to Garrett along with 2 AT Pro's for the ungrade and they sent me back a brand new Propointer, no charge. How's that for Garrett service!!! Box it up and send it in. Even if you have to pay the repair fee, I'll bet it won't be much. I learned my lesson, did you???

They don't require that you prove to be the first owner.
Save some change and ship it back in a padded envelope, Not your original box. It will be returned in a envelope and they will keep the box.
Doubt if you will have to worry about it being damaged on the way to the factory.

I received my repaired propointer today.Garrett replaced the coil which is obviously a part of the housing.I would have thought that I had a new Propointer if not for the battery cap(the rest of the housing is new).I would send what you have since the pc board and battery cap are the only parts reused. One thing is for sure-if I ever lose or destroy this one,I'll definitely buy another!
