The "Real Buried Treasure"

The real buried treasure is found right here on this and similar forums. Thirty-five plus years ago, when I first developed an interest in metal detecting, the kind of information found on here was difficult if not impossible to find. The only resources available were a few books and magazines and they never seemed to go into much detail. You were pretty much left to your own devices to learn through trial and error. And I didn't have the time available to go through all of that. However I still have my old Garrett Master Hunter from the 70's in a closet.

Now that I am retired I decided to give it a shot again. When I first started looking around I could not believe how much the technology had changed and also the proliferation of information available. The most amazing discovery to me was the number of forums and the wealth of information that knowledgeable posters were willing to share. Some of the posters are well informed persons with real insight into the design and operations of many different metal detectors.

To sum this up, I just wish to thank all of the posters for their valuable contributions to this exciting hobby. And if I find that some of these knowledgeable contributors have a book or dvd for sale, I try to support them as a way of repaying them for what they have already given away freely to so many of us.

Couldn't agree with you more. :) There some really nice people on here also that go out of there way to help.

You are right, Bob, I have been in the hobby 38 years myself and while I remained fairly active over these years, I am still amazed at how far the technology has progressed. I had a Garrett Master Hunter 7x that I acquired in the 80's and actually just sold it a couple of years ago. I also agree with you about the forums and the wealth of knowledge from so many willing to share it. My last five detector purchases have been the results of forum members sharing their views and accounts. I have always deemed detecting a great hobby, but now that I am retired and get to detect almost daily, I have grown to love it even more. HH jim tn
