Finally followed Rick(ND) advice and mounted an S-1 Sunray Probe from Dixie. After his detailed post on how he used it I was sold. The only thing I had to work out was how to mount it on my GT modified handle.

I was afraid that the piggyback setup would put the meter to high. so I ordered an extra V-clip to give me the option of mounting the S-1 box and the meter side by side on separate extensions from the handle. Didn't need it. Worked fine in the designed position . It even gives me a better eye level view of the meter.

The only other question was where to attach the probe clip for the probe. The designed position next to the GT control box is fine but doesn't fit my hunting style. I want it all up front and easy access. I sometimes hang my GT to a web belt by the ring on the shaft and the probe cable was in the way. After trying different mounting positions I found that the probe would mount very nicely on my extended handle with a simple extension. An added benefit is that it seems to balance better too. The only other thing I needed to do was change the width of my stand. Something I needed to do anyway to make it more stable with the 10 inch coil.

Does my setup add extra weight - yes, but not that much. It was heavy to begin with. Doesn't bother me.

You might be interested that the meter/probe box extension arm can be dismantled. Its not permanently in place. This also allows the position of the meter to be turned for better viewing.

Rick is right. This is a tool you really need to have.
