The Races day three

Ken (Australia)

New member
turned out to be just as good as the first two. The ground is now starting to dry out fairly well. Have attached some pics of the silver finds.

Very worn English shilling 1819
English shilling 1869
English sixpence 1900
Australian sixpence 1936
Australian threepences 1910, 1921, 1942, 1943, 1944
Australian florins 1941, 1947, 1952

English and Australian pennies back to 1889 and $24 in one and twos paid for petrol.

I've picked over the most obvious spots but I bet there's still a few more coins to find. Had a great day, thanks for looking.....Ken.

Congrats Ken, a good haul there.Make sure you dig up the pull tab signals as they have the same reading as a Half Sovereign seeing you are digging up coins in the 1800's and it being a race track i'm sure there will be a Sovereign or two there.

Hello Ken. Looks like you have found a nice little virgin detecting spot and an old one at that. I think you will be there for some time to do a good job. Those spots are harder to find these days. All the best. Stan. From Australia.

I doubt I'll find another spot like this. After speaking with the property owner I knew it was old and had never been detected before. No gold yet Raoul but I'll keep looking. There's a fair area left untouched and I'd like to go over a couple of spots again. Am just waiting for permission to have a look at another racecourse that goes back to the early 1900's.............Ken.

I've been away for a while, but when I saw your finds: I'm green with envy:clapping::drinking::twodetecting::cheers: I'm from San Diego, California, but I just love the fact that they're so old. I'm still looking for "old". Keep it up. What an inspiration!

Ken we have just found a similar spot up in North Qld an old school, the school was demolished about years ago, 2 of us found 308 coins in 6 hours of detecting.

Thanks Steve

Hello Steve. Good going mate. Make sure that you do a thorough job of that spot. I had a simular thing happen to me .About five years ago I found a small school area that had the original two room

The school sounds like a great spot. I've just passed the hundred coin mark on my last trip to the racecourse with a few more than 40 being pre decimal or English silver. I went to one of my local schools yesterday afternoon for a bit of practice in the bark chip around the kids play area. Ended up with 40 coins, mostly 5c and 10C. On the way back to the car I saw where a trench had been dug across a part of the playground to lay a concrete path, I only had a few minutes so swung the Quattro across the piles of dirt which had been dug out and got two pennies 1919 and 1944 and a 44 halfpenny. Might go back this afternoon for a better look..........Ken.
