Queen Elizabeth took a tour of Colonial Williamsburg in a horse-drawn carriage last Thursday. The restored town is an exact replica of America as it was 300 years ago. She looked around and chuckled, then was heard to say to an aide:

I also heard that Mickey Rooney, the actor, was introduced to the Queen Mother during her stateside visit and he gaffed one himself.

It seems that when she extended her hand to him in greeting, he grabbed hold of her paw and planted a big 'ol wet smoocheroo on it. Really slobbered it on, as the story goes.

However, it seems you are only supposed to take her hand gently in yours, pat the back of it and give an obsequious bow towards the monarch. Juicing up the royal backhand is an apparent no-no.

After her 22 gun salute at the White House, being the butt of GW's constipation remedies and old-age jokes and then Mr. Rooney's salivating glove wetting - she must think we're a bunch of uncouth rubes here in the Colonies.
