THE PROVERBIAL RADIO SHACK DETECTOR &

Woodchuck

New member
SHOVEL YUP! I've read about it here on forum, but today I saw it with my own eyes.Me and a friend were metal detecting in a County Park, being very careful how we were digging.Ground was soft from the recent rains and our first snow of season had just melted. As we were leaving we saw another person out detecting. I could not believe it he had a brand new radio shack detector and a friggin short handled regular shovel. Needless to say I had my friend stop.I got out and told the kid ( looked to be in late teens or early twentys) plain and simple that digging with that shovel will get us kicked out of the park, real quick by park personnel . It did not seem to phase the kid. and he kept on doing his thing. My friend asked me if I was nice about explaining to the kid.And I said hell no ! I just couldn't believe it the stupidity of it and the lack of common sense. That and fact he was parked on the grass field with a jeep with huge mudder type tires.right there told me he didn.t give a dam.:ranting:

Maybe the kid didn't appreciate a grumpy old guy telling him what to do!! It is always better to use tact and be polite to others, I don't care what the circumstance. Also stupidity is doing the same thing over and over expecting the same results, the kid's lack of knowledge would probably better be described as ignorance, and we all have been guilty of that at one time or another. Next time why not pleasantly ask if the inexperienced person would like to hunt with you and learn how it's done?? I bet you get a better response than by yelling.
