The Pocket Watch.........

Kelley (Texas)

New member
This old pocket watch was made by the Elgin Watch Company in 1905, a hundred and ten years ago. The case is gold filled and the mechanical movement has 7 jewels. It will keep time within 3-5 minutes per day which in 1905 was considered pretty good. The pocket watches of this era were sensitive to hard bumps and dropping and it was considered best to have a nice watch chain and wear it in the watch pocket of most American made blue jeans. A very dear friend restored this watch and gave it to me as a gift a few years ago, a gift that I will always cherish.

This picture was taken with my Sony NEX-6 camera using a vintage Minolta MD Macro 50mm F3,5 lens at F5.6, 1/100, ISO 200, Daylight white balance, manual focus, Manual Mode. I used a black colored piece of black felt cloth for the background. Kelley (Texas) :)

My Daughter-in-Law found the black felt cloth at a Hobby Lobby store and purchased it for me. Kelley (Texas) :)

Lovely elegant watch well displayed and photographed......famous name as well.

Very nice story and picture. I too have an Elgin oldie with 5 different colors of gold on it. Things that are handed down are priceless in my book. Thanks again for the story.
