The plus and minus of the foil CZ segment..

Dan-Pa.

Unfortunately the foil segment is quite wide on a CZ and will pick up the smallest piece of foil along with a lot of Misc. junk and if your in a foil infested park won't get off your knees digging..
Usually a gold ring will hit harder but so will a large piece of foil and although with some units can pick up subtle audio variances but not with a CZ..As the manual states swinging fast will usually eliminate a small piece. Hate to pick your brains:rolleyes: but anyone come up with an idea to cut down the odds as am sure the forum would appreciate it..
looking forward to some input as after 20 years still learning...

Yeah Dan, me too! Once I found out I could actually find gold rings with CZ in the park I tried to come up with some hair brained schemes.

Tried lifting the coil to the point where I thought I'd get that double beep, no good.

Buried a few gold rings shallow and some can slaw and other foil trash. Switched to autotune and yeah, sure I figured that one out! But I knew where the gold rings were that I planted so I convinced myself I could hear some difference.

So back to the park with that new know-how and when I got a foil target that I suspected would be a good possibility, switched to autotune to see if it sounded like it "should".

Dug a lot of canslaw and foil after that exercise also...

My efforts were all aimed at relatively shallow gold rings, within 4" of surface that would come in on the most likely target category for gold rings.

Maybe I'll try it again using the lower cats one of these days....

Dan,
Actually I've been applying a lesson I learned from you ... salt mode is less sensitive to very small low conductors. Sometimes I run salt mode over the dirt to help ignore the smallest foil. Of course it will also eliminate some chains too, but the hunting is all about trade offs. It still leaves a lot of can slaw to dig, but not so much of the real small stuff.

Any audio variances I ever came up with came from a regular pinpoint mode and although VCO nails those deepies for accurate pinpointing all usually sounds the same or differences too subtle to be of any use. Had a friend when he park hunted devoted the first hour to digging those segments with the highest degree of being a gold rings and once in a while he got lucky( digital CZ with the notch) comes in handy for this approach or perhaps on a swimming beach where one gold ring can make up for a lot of dug clad. I have found many older units without fancy meters and gizmo's had the audio variances so one guesses those that dig succeed in the gold ring category...Unfortunately so many tabs. foils and the like mimic rings...heck no-one ever said it would be easy and indeed is quite a challenge...on land and swimming beaches just dig them all....

I'll use them as a reference because I sure as heck can't contribute to this thread:biggrin:

I'm still working on narrowing my low conductor digs down to the nickel/foil bounce:cheers:

The last gold ring I found with my CZ-70 bounced from foil to nickel, but it hit hard and turned out to be a Victorian mens signet ring :detecting:

Thats why I dig everyone that bounces between foil and nickle...always get the special feeling...its like the CZ is telling me its not a jefferson nickle and not foil but somewhere in between.
