The Pin-pointer question

Old Katz

New member
Theres been a lot of people wanting to know what pin-pointer to buy. My first one was a Harbor Frieght for $15.95. It did the job for sure.
It helped save time in getting on to the next target, but its still a %15.95 pin-pointer. You kliterally have to be on top of the target, actually touching it to
know where the target is. I just broke down and bought the Garrett Pro-pointer and let me tell you it's like having died and gone to heaven.

I just got it in the mail today.

I took the Garrett Pro-pointer out for a test run; I can

I just got my Garret Pro-Pointer today and I really like it. It is so much easier and fast to pinpoint small items.
Using the coin trick to double the sensitivity, I can detect a .01 ounce or .3 gram of gold at 1" depth.
Normally, most coins will be detected at 1 1/2" to 2" deep. However, if you use the coin trick to heighten
the sensitivity, those coins can be found at 3 1/2"- 4" deep.

To: mwaynebennett,

Turn your Garret Pro-Pointer on then take a coin (penny, nickel, dime, even a small washer will do) and slide the
coin from the back to the front of the Pro-Pointer slowly. When you here the sound start clicking, slide your coin
back until the sound justs stops and hold it there against the shaft which (depending on which coin or washer you use)
should be close to the led light. Anyhow, you will notice a 100% or more improvement in coin detection depth as I
indicated above.
There is a video out there that gives a demonstration of this.
It's just an easy way ( no cost factor ) to increase the sensitivity without changing the circuitry of the Pro-Pointer
and it will definitely detect very small flakes of gold or small nuggets.
Good Luck to you.

Good Question? Logic tells me this should have been incorporated in the design,
because it would sell a lot more Garrett Pro-Pointers if you can double the sensitivity.
Anyhow, I hope you tried this method and it worked for you.
Without this extra sensitivity, you might miss those small flakes of gold or a coin
that's deeper than 2".

I recently purchased a Garrett pro pointer,
Man , I tell ya , it IS a MUST have.
The first day out, it found a HALF of a STAPLE.
Not a fencing staple , but a paper staple
Half of one.! ! !
I tell ya, that sold me, I would have gone NUTS tryin to find that in my dirt pile.
OH, then a few weeks ago, I met a Prospector/ Claim owner.
He Gladly pulled out a jar with some fine to picker size gold,
My Detectors wouldnt sound off, but that pointer sure did,
within 1/4 inch.
So, I too, am the PROUD owner of a Garrett Pro Pointer.
And im glad we all like to share info, never heard of the "Coin Trick".
Thanks for that tip.
Good luck to you all
Dusty

I used to just go to beaches because I hated digging the dirt, On the mainland the coins you are digging are generally the same color as the ground it's buried in and usually hidden in the plug you remove from the earth, The Pro Pointer lets you know when you are near and in what direction you need to dig if you need to dig further, Speeds recovery time immensely. Honestly I couldn't think of detecting without it.
