This question is not necessarily a, which is better kind of a question, but more of a why, question. I have been reading all the write-ups on the Outlaw and they all sound pretty good. And since the Outlaw is the newer of the detectors to come on the market, I figured it would be the more expensive. But no. The Outlaw retails for $515 and the Vaquero retails for $525. I realize that the Vaquero has a VLF of 14 kHz and the Outlaw has a VLF of 10.6 kHz, but the Outlaw has this new
Right now I have a Vaquero. If I thought the Outlaw would get the same depth on high conductors as the Vaquero gets on low conductors I would swap. It should due to the different frequency but I doubt it.
I traded for the Vaquero over the Outlaw because I think the 14kHz might give me a slight edge on gold jewelry. But thinking and knowing are 2 different things. I really like my Vaquero, but do hope to have a Outlaw also someday. HH
You couldn't pry my Vaquero outta my hands if you tried. love it !
Not saying the outlaw isn't a good detector, but the only advantage I can see is the extra coils with the Outlaw....
The Vaquero loves nickels and bangs them hard even at depth. Just a great all purpose detector.

Exactly how I knew it would be answered The only way I will give up my Vaquero is My Grandson will get it! to go with his Silver uMax The Vaquero is one Awesome Machine Low tone High tone does not matter it is a Great machine
I've owned my Vaquero since march, can be a bit of a challenge at first determining what sound to dig versus not to dig. I thumbed the discriminator a lot at first trying to score those elusive old silver coins and while I did find 2 silver rings and 11 wheat pennies,I scored zero on silver coins(but loads of clad) I also noticed I wasn't getting much on Nickels by thumbing all the time so I set discrimination above iron (first notch) and dug every solid, round ,full sounding target I hit not only did I start getting Nickels (plus loads more pull tabs, aluminum, iron, lead, beaver tails, soda/beer tops) my ring count went up ,7 total, All junk mind you (last hunt a '50 era Kiddiegem gold filled girls ring) but also cool things such as brass suspender with a patten 1870 date on it,copper and metal buttons, the kind of stuff you know is old.I've also been hunting the same school built in '58 large field with lots of history(early farming area) for what I paid $440.00 for my Vaquero as an all purpose detector I'm extremely pleased with its depth and performance and will continue hunting with her for some time to come I I highly recommend owning one. Happy digging!
