the old well in the woods

GRAY GHOST

New member
hi everyone, here are pics of the old well and cistern that lead me to the old mansion site in the woods. such things are getting rarer to see by the day; it's been years since iv'e seen an intact one anywhere. and such craftmanship is seldom seen nowadays. i found coins and relics dating to the 1820's on this site, and i had a great time searching it. it was stuccoed at some point in the past. when your're walking through the woods, and see this, it's enough to get the blood up! enjoy, and hh,

hello richard, it's on private land and yes, iv'e been pounding it regularly with the cibola. see "the old mansion in the woods" posts if interested. i found a good bit there. thanks, and hh,

That's interesting, I've seen them covered over with rotten boards. Scares the crap out of me. But it looks like you found a good place.

Wow!
How deep are those GrayGhost?

I agree... I'd think about a buddy and a rope and windlass.
and a spare rope.LoL

Out in the CA desert where I used to run around it was wide open... nothing but scrub brush...

Evey so often you would come across an old mining test hole. NO warning!
About 3 - 4ft across, and DEEP!

It was loong ago, so probably seemed deeper than it really was, but we dropped burning trash in 'em to find the bottom.
At least 60ft deep, probably more, that I can remember.
Super dangerous!

i will admit it's tempting to go down the old well, it's about 20 ft. deep and appears dry. but how to do it safely is the question. there's a host of hazards in old wells. but i'm thinking... hh,

I'm not real smart.
I couldn't pass it up!

And I'd do it all by myself... heck, anybody I know would probably leave me down there anyway!

Never do something like that without the buddy system... we've had problems back in the mines where we were REAL close to becoming seriously reliant on the buddy system!

LoL We had friends decide to stay an extra night, and day, working a mine once.
I was elected.
An hour and a half drive over the highway, an hour in 4 x 4, and I was about 2hrs into a 4hr hike past a locked gate when they came motoring around a bend on their way out. They were surprised to see me! Then it dawned on them I was the search party...

Always wise to let someone know where you're going, and when you expect to return, when out in the boonies.

Now I'm gonna be thinkin' about beepin' at the bottom of that well!

Just remember, there's no where for the heavy gases to escape.

Enclosed spaces have taken many lives.

I know you've heard this before, but it doesn't hurt for people to know

there are potentially serious consequences when entering enclosed

spaces.

That's enough serious stuff. Here's an Arkie Idea.........<>

Try puting your neighbor's poodle in a cage and lower it to the bottom

for about an hour?..................Would that work?...........

No joke!!!!!!!.......BE CAREFUL:please:

HH,

How in the world did you find a place like that?

i found this old mansion in the woods [i think you might have seen the posts] by rumor. i had heard a couple of years ago about it, but had forgotten about it. so i went looking for it. the first sign was daffodils in certain areas. then some yard bushes. then i spied the old well. thought it was a discarded fridge at first. turns out it's two old homeplaces on about 6 acres, with another identical well on the other lot as well. very trashy, like an old party spot. i have found relics and coins dating back to the 1830's there. just got off my butt one saturday morning and hit paydirt! and to top it all off mark, i was told by 2 different people the place was hunted out. that's just a big green flag for a hunter like me. i don't have any interest in going down the old well, out of the question. hh,

Get all the trash up and the treasure will follow.
