The Old Trolley Stop

AJ in PA

Member
Drove the 20+ miles to get to the Soccer Field from Monday's hunt only to find about a hundred kids using the field so I had to
go to Plan B. There is a an old trolley stop that I've hunted in the past with my Explorer II that was my backup but I didn't get there until after lunch.
The last time I was there I only found a few wheaties so I figured the E-Trac would find a few goodies. It always pays to have Plan B !!
The 4 wheats and the 26 Merc were found in a small area and then not much else. About 50 feet away I got a 12-40 signal at 4 inches. Cutting the
plug and pulling it away revealed a silver dime in the hole. Hmmmmm......doesn't look like a wheaty??? I pulled the coin from the hole and realized it was a Barber dime!
This reading was a little low for a Barber dime so I waived it by the coil and it still read 12-40! I immediately thought of the post from a few days ago about how to tell the wheaty
signals from the silver signals and the advice that everyone had given was to dig them all. Good advice, let's keep diggin' them wheaty signals. Happy Hunting everyone.

Nice job. I don't mind digging wheaties, and to end up pulling a Barber dime out of a wheat signal is even better.

I have dug a lot of barber dimes with the etrac and never has one been higher than 12-41 even ones that were high details great finds

Nice finds, well done! I've pulled many barbers and my seated dimes came in like wheaties. In certain areas I actually look forward to wheatie signals as it meant a better chance for seated....but he last silver I pulled out of there was at 44 Co and was an '92 barber. You just never know. Thanks for the pictures.

Very nice finds !

Most of the Barber Dimes I've found came in as 12 - 43's and 44's but most were 12-45's - never lower than 43.
The Cap Bust Dimes also seem to come in around 12 - 43.
I've had several worn Dimes come in as 12 - 42's.

The bottom line is ... if your hunting an older site and the signal breaks nice and clean and the target number's don't bounce around - just dig it !

Great finds for Plan B.

The last Barber dime I dug came up as a repeatable 12-44 which made me think I was getting a wheaty. I was hunting a trashy area in TTF so I didn't have the tone to differentiate.

It goes to show that you should dig all wheaty signals, especially if the soil has not been disturbed and there is some depth on the target.
