The Old Poncho Villa Lounge............

Kelley (Texas)

New member
For years, I have been writing a journal about my adventures traveling the back roads of South Texas. A few minutes ago, I wrote a short story about the old Poncho Villa Lounge that is located in Eastern Bexar County, Texas. During it's glory days, this old bar had a bad reputation, fights and killings, a hang out for a gang, and other bad things. There was even a rumor that buried treasure was located on the property. Kelley (Texas) :)

Seeing this photo, I remember it being posted and talked about. Had you told us about it on another forum on Findmall? Such a little place, no wonder there was fights, etc. There's no elbow room.

Last night I was updating the original story and doing better editing of the pictures associated with this story. I have been writing a journal for over ten years about my adventures traveling the back roads of South Texas, as well as stories about my life as a boy growing up on the ranches of South Texas. When completed, this journal will be passed on to my Grandson.

Sorry for reposting the picture, I just thought it looked much better after editing it with newer editing software. I will not post any more old, revised pictures. I have written eighty-seven stories to date, but may have posted five or six in the past. Kelley (Texas)

Please post more old photos. I enjoy them and I'm sure others do too. I dearly love the stories behind them. I'm not criticizing your photo, would NEVER think of doing that. I am so sorry if I offended you.

Nancy, no, you did not offend me, nor did I think that you were criticizing anything that I have posted on this Forum. In reference to the picture of the old Poncho Villa Lounge, I was thrilled that the revised picture looked so much better than the original pictured posted about five years or so ago. The new picture has the trash removed and etc. I don't normally repost old pictures like this one. I did feel bad about reposting the picture, but just liked the new, revised picture.

Also, while the bar itself is small, it was common for the customers to sit outside on the tail gates of their pickup trucks or to just stand outside visiting as they drank their beer. The old bar had a bad reputation. Kelley (Texas) :)

I learned a long time ago. Never go into a bar that has only one door.....lol Great photo

Thank you Kelly.

I can picture the customers sitting on the tailgates of their trucks and just hanging around while enjoying a cold brew. Or possibly a warm one since it looks like it's in the middle of nowhere. If it were warm, no wonder there was a rowdy bunch there.

It's always nice to see places still standing that has so much history,,,would love to have been around when it was really hopping.
