A few days ago, a friend told me that I should take a picture of an old Humble Oil Station that was located just south of Downtown San Antonio. After much research, I still know very little about this station. Humble Oil was founded in 1911, and grew to become the largest oil company in Texas with service stations all across the state with huge refineries that supported them. In the 1970
Those old places are getting mighty rare now days and they are slipping into the past, just memories for some. Those are some neat shots. I don't think I ever remember seeing one up here.
I have been going through a lot of my old pictures of when I was a kid, making another slide show for family and by it brings back the good and the bad. So many memories and it is amazing that I can remember many of the pictures being taken, over 60-65 years ago. Amazing. So much has happened since those pictures were taken
Like you, I have some pictures of not very good memories, but I think about the picture until I can think of something pleasant about the person in the picture. I never cared much for Uncle Harry, on my mother's side of the family, because he was just mean towards me most of the time. Then one day I realized something good, he always let me fish in his stock tanks. I loved fishing in his stock tanks, lots of catfish in them. He was always telling me that I spent too much time messing with horses when I should be helping my folks on the farm. This was not true, I worked my tail off helping on the farm. Kelley (Texas)
I think we were coming back or going to Trout Lake when we stopped at the old homestead. Across the road was the old barn, with the birdhouse built into the end and that spooky area under the trees with the trash. Beautiful in a strange way. I have some pictures of it somewhere. I will see if I can find them.
It's a snow cone and fruit cup building. Little building, know telling how many times it's been under water form storm surges from hurricanes. I like thoses old gas pumps. Good story Fred. Great photos too.
that has been converted into another type of small business. There is an old Mobil Gas Station on the corner of Broadway and the Austin Highway that was turned into a cafe years ago. It still has that horse type sign on the roof...a beautiful old station. I remember back in the late 1970's when it was still a gas station. Unfortunately, most of them get demolished when they close their doors. Kelley (Texas)
i always like seeing those old stations and their history is interesting.
These new plastic stations with 2000 sq feet of coffee, chips, and pop are about as interesting as watching TV commercials
Thanks for the nice pics
