The Old Arboretum still giving up treasures!!!

Jkine and I hit the Old Arboretum today, started up where the original Administration Building was built and then burned down in the early 1900s. Worked a steep hillside for awhile mostly digging flattened cans. I managed to hit on an old style Schlitz beer twist top cap and then I noticed colored glass in next to it. Dug it out carefully..... damn, glass drug pipe!! Did manage to dig a couple more old rifle casings too, the 45 cal casehead is stamped with a C on top and an F on the bottom 12 on the left and 85 on the right and an ‘06 blank stamped DEN 42.

Believe me the next hour or so was boring, I dug maybe 3 pennies and a lot of junk. Place has a bunch of small iron tones and occasionally we get nails. Started to get close to where I dug the ‘66 JFK in April and started getting high tone hits I now know is off iron. Just when I approached trail intersection that I quit at last time I hit a solid 85-86 repeatable clear ear blast Went down 4-5” and pinpointer said I was basically beside it in the plug. Pushed the pinpointer into the side and caught a glimpse of silver and a reeded edge! I have 3 cents and now this? Text Jeff to get over to me and he looks in the hole and called me several names I forgive him for now 😂 and got his phone out to record the event. Out comes silver 1965 JFK!!! This spot was just outside of where I stopped that day in April. We worked our way out and I dug three clad dimes and a cell phone!!! But, BUT, Jeff gets an odd find that we had to look up on the net!! He will check in and tell his “wine top” story!!!

Ron isn't lying when he said it was a boring day. About 2 hours in I had twenty three cents in clad. Then he found his silver half dollar which gave us both a boost in energy.

There is so much trash here: I found a number of early 20th century Sharp's casings and WWII M1 blank cartridges... not to many tons of wine and beer bottle screw caps. Even if they are 6" down, the CTX says it is a huge target and makes that sound like it is a surface target. I was meandering, skipping a few of those, when one said dig. Calling myself a chump for wasting my time, out pops this gold colored half dollar... showed Ron, who noticed the stamped dates. Anyway, it's a novelty. Not many hunts land two halves!

And even a bit more stumped when we found its background on the internet!!! No info on how many of these were stamped from “a private mint” but there couldn't have been that many.
