The NOX got me a little old gold today.

This is a bittersweet find for me and, while it isn't a "whole lotta" gold, I am super happy to have found it. The following link was made by my hunting partner when he found a 32nd Degree Mason pendant about 5 years ago. https://www.findmall.com/read.php?19,1897802,1897802#msg-1897802. I wasn't with him on that hunt, but he called me right after he found it and it took a good 5 minutes for me to understand what it was he was trying to tell me. He stuttered a bit as it was, but the excitement he had at that time made it practically impossible to understand him. He told me "you've got to see this thing . . . you just have to see it"! So, he brought it by on his way home that day and once he dropped it my hand, I got just as excited as he did when he found it. Once we both calmed down, we started really taking a close look at and were able to determine where it had broken away from whatever it was that it was attached to.

Bruce passed away last June and while I still do enjoy detecting, I've come close to quitting a couple of times because it just isn't the same without him. He always found way more than I did and, at times, it made me a little jealous but I still enjoyed being there and sharing his excitement when he made a good one.

He and I hunted that spot a few times together and I've hunted it a handful of times since he passed and I never found anything there worth a hoot. Well, today I decided to head there again and try my luck with a new shooter. I decided to start around the area where he showed me that he found the pendant and "lo and behold" lookie what I found maybe three feet from where he found that pendant! I'm pretty sure that only part that is solid gold is the loop that is hinged to a tab that broke away from the pendant. That part is 14k. The rest of it appears to be plated. Like I said, not much gold, but DAMN glad to have it.

Thanks for the memories Bruce!

big congrats on your find. it is bittersweet for you tho as i am sure that you would be loving showing it to Bruce right now. I have the same thing going with my main hunting buddy. He finds more than me and is spite of myself i do get jealous of his finds too but without him to share the excitement with it just wouldn't be the same. I'm glad that you persevered and kept on detecting. Continued good luck.

Thanks guys. You're right martygene, part of me wishes that I could have seen his face when I pulled that out. But, ya know what, another part of me thinks that he WAS there! He was a die-hard Explorer fan and was really, really good with his SE Pro. That was the first time I had ever swung a Minelab over ANY spot that we had hunted together and I'm almost sure that he was standing right behind me saying "I told you they were good machines"!

What a great story! It warms my heart to read these type of things. This is just an awesome reason why this "IS" such a great hobby. Congrats on the find, GL & HH, Dirtdiga; aka, lookforgold

Thank you for your outstanding story, HEBEGB. At first I celebrated your reconnection with your friend. It then caused me to reflect on how truly important friends and family really are. Again, thank you.
