Thanks for putting that on there. I especially like the following edition of the garrett newsletter on page 3:

I'm still hunting for the partner to that gold coin. In that same spot I also found an 1871 cc Seated Liberty Dime and it is worth more than the gold coin. I now use my dad's GTI 2500 since he died and it's done pretty well finding old coins too.

I happened to remember I had the coin scanned into the computer and it's in this bunch as is the 1871cc dime.
It isn't a very good scan but it also shows a 3 cent silver piece and a 1906 Barber half & a couple of Barber quarters taken from the same field. Oldest coin I found in that field was 1829 large cent. One of my hunting buddies found a 1795 silver spanish coin there.

Thanks. The old fair grounds here and another fair grounds about 10 miles from here have both been pretty productive through the years. Last several times we've been out though we haven't found anything but nails and grape shot or rifle balls. I guess I did find a 1910 wheat penny as soon as the beans were combined a couple weeks ago. Went back out there yesterday and the farmer was spraying some chemicals so I left. It's a big field to walk especially when it's cold and windy. The local boy scout camp produced a 1943 silver quarter last Friday. Coins are getting scarcer to find it seems but am sure there's one more gold one out there to find. By the way shortly after posting that picture I got an advertisement in my email junk/spam box referencing my gold coin. Didn't read it to see what they wanted to sell me.
