The new Land Ranger Pro

Hightone

New member
Has anyone heard about or used one? All I know is the one Russian video on youtube. I may be persuaded away from my F5 by the looks of it. Main advantage for me is that the manual says it saves your data (less ground settings). Plus I like the many different mode settings.

Guess I'm getting lazy in my old age.

Hello Hightone,

I got the Land Ranger Pro in yesterday. Changes in Mode 2, 3 and 4 will be saved when tuned off. I like the Notch Width feature, because that helps to get rid of the pulltabs and still get the gold rings. Depth in (True) All Metal Mode should be the same like your F5 in All Metal.
For the money a great detector is my first impression. More info in a few days.

Andy

Thanks, Andy.

One problem with the BH line is that most dealers don't touch the line because Wal-Mart and every other big chain carries them. I don't know what FTP had in mind for marketing higher end types like the LRP towards the discount department stores. I see only KellyCo carrying them right now. It makes it hard for doing a trade (up) when the line is not included in the Metal Detector Dealers arsenal.

I don't see dealers promoting it on the forums, and may even lead others away to something they can sell.

Andy, looking forward to any type of detailed report you can give. Pics would be nice also :)
Now matter where I buy one, I will definetly have one in the future.

I downloaded and read the manual for the new Land Ranger Pro and wow it has a lot of features. You can really adjust the tones to your liking. If it performs as good as it looks I think First Texas has a real contender. Definitely looking forward to your comments Andy after you have done some field testing.

Here are my airtest results with US coins (Quarter and Nickel)

All Metal Mode, Sensitivity at 10: Quarter 12", Nickel 11"
Disc Mode 2 nothing rejected, Sensitivity at 10: Quarter 10" Nickel 10"

The all Metal Mode goes deeper than the advertized depth = "detects coins up to 10" deep".

The Land Ranger Pro is probably the best Bounty Hunter detector ever and for the retail price a good deal, but I still like some detectors of the Teknetics Line better.
I miss the Fe3O4 mineralisation readout, the 3 stem design and the metal style coil plug of the Teks, but the Teknetics have a higher retail price.(Omega, G2 and T2).

Summary: If you can life with the 2 stem design and the plastic coil plug the Land Ranger Pro can't be beat in performance for the price. Its All Metal Mode is very deep and the features (V-Break and Notch Width) are cool and not found on other brand detectors in this price range. The Land Ranger Pro is so different compared to the old "muffler on a stick" Land Ranger, that I think the First Texas Group should have given the unit a new name. I see some confusion in the future when people talk about the Land Ranger and the Land Ranger Pro.

Andy,NM

Thanks for the added input Andy. It looks like they are following the Euroteks strategy; price-point, features, and performance.
The lack of a mineralization readout is a non issue with me, have never had one. The lack of 3 pole doesn't matter either. I never take my machines apart. The plugs are the same as my older Bounty Hunter machines. Never had an issue with push in plugs.
Everything I am reading looks positive so far. Looking forward to some field test reports.
Was wondering is the machine gives ID and depth while in all metal mode?

Yes, it has Vdi numbers and depth reading in All Metal with ground balance. I can't complain about the performance in the field, but I used only All Metal for militaria stuff hunting.

Looks like the LRP is the right detector for you.

Andy

Well I'm glad to see they are getting away from that terrible
cheap looking design they have been using. Very junky looking.
The models I saw on Kellyco website, look MUCH better. The old
design always struck me as juck strapped together with masking tape.
Bet this will help their sales too! The new model reminds me of the EuroPro.

The notch width feature is what grabs my attention as thats a tesoro golden umax feature that has me tring to find one..But i may have a new option with the L.S.Pro and lcd display to boot..I just wonder how well the i'm guessing 7.8 khz freq. is going to work for gold jewelry verses the tesoros 12 khz..The notch width should really help in jewelry finds,,what do you think Andy.

Video would be great, like the notch width and if it works like the golden umax it should really clean up in pull tab infested grounds...Rings may be more common in the pocket,i don't put them in the pouch,,lol

Nothing wrong with a Tesoro, but I think the Bounty Land Ranger Pro has much more to offer than any Tesoro. The Land Rangers frequency of 7.69 combined with the punch of the detector is at least as good on gold as a tesoro at 12 KHz.

An example how Notch Width can help you cancel the pull tabs and find Rings:
If pulltabs come in at VDI number 50 (example) select notch width 3 and after that select Notch 49. Now 49,50 and 51 are notched out. All other VDI Numbers will be detected.

Problem is that way you can either notch out the newer style pulltab OR the older style. If you set Notch Width to a larger window so that both pulltabs are notched out, most rings will be gone too. I use a tight window of 3 for the new style pulltab and check the VDI Number for the other old one.

Andy,NM

The larger amount of pull tabs i deal with is the new style as the years go by the old style have been dug and not replenished as the pivot tab has and is being replenished daily..so if i can notch them out and dig everything else i will find more gold no doubt...Now gotta scratch some jack up to buy another machine, like i really need one, hum,now that i think about it i do..lol

1. Is the recovery speed as good as the F series/Teknetics detectors?
2. Do the coils share with any other units? (you may not know, and with the push type plug, I assume not many)
3. Is the two pole design stable? Or does it wiggle some what more than the 3 pole design?

Thanks.

1. Almost equals a new Omega with 10" coil
2. Push connectors
3. Same as gamma and below. Seems as stable

Just got mine delivered today and I'm quite impressed. Just not fond of the vco in the user programmable modes.

Hey Taco.

I assume you talking about the tones in 2,3 and 4, right? Isn't there a 4 tone function?

Thank you for your cooperation...
