I was detecting at the park today and some 10 year old tried to tell me that it was illegal to detect at the park and that there was some guy who didn't like people messing up his park, I told her that it is a public park and that I had been going there for 30 years (this is the first year detecting it) and that no one has ever "owned" the park except for the city and kept right on detecting.

i have had them try to grab my detector, screwdriver, shovel and my finds. they have almost stepped on my MD, they want to help dig when you are by sticking thier hands in the hole while you are using your screwdriver to poke around i was asked by a child what i was doing. when i told her i was just looking for stuff in the ground, she said like pennies? i said yes, she replies....why are you poor? that one still makes me laugh....i said yes i am but dont touch my MD because it cost alot of money. just remember kids will be kids......and parents just sit back and watch knowing thier kids are buggin...i had a parent tell me after her 4 year old followed me all over the park taking my finds and reburying them, she says. thanx for entertaining my son...i told her. sure thats what i came out here to do.

Hay Dobbie,

I read lots of complaints about the kids in tot lots.

In my mind, the tot lot is their's, and I am doing a service.

I have had some nice times entertaining kids in tot lots.

The mothers always appreciate it. I think they can sense a nice old man.

It's part of what I like about tot loting.

Guess I'm not your every day metaldetectorist.

It's a shame really. Just more enjoyment for every body.

HH,
