the nasty coins

I know everyone says don't tumble the coins that are worth anything, but, what do you all do with the coins that are so crusted up that you can't tell what they are, let alone if they are worth anything?! lol I've gotten so frustrated with a few extremely crusted pennies that I took out the old Dremmel and attached a sander attachment to it and went to town!! And I still didn't get down to copper on that puppy!

for a day when I can melt them down or do something more useful with them. Right now there only good for experimenting on what cleans them up best.

Just take them to a Federal Reserve Bank... They will give you new ones. I don't waste my time with them though I deposit them in the trash.

If you badly want to know what the coin is and need to ID it, one way is to use gold acid test on it. It's a little pricy to use but i did tryed that one time just to know what was the coin i found in salt water. The acid chewed all the marine residu and i could easyly identify it after. Needless to say the coin wasn't in the best of shape after but it was probably very damaged at first.
Maybe some cheaper muriatic acid would do too.
