The latest in our Loop Endeavor, from Discovery

I just got off the phone with Ron at Discovery, and they are amendable to the idea. Now the question becomes what is the minimum order needed for this idea to be lucrative. And as there needs to be a dealer/distributor,
I much prefer MR BILL or anyone, over FLORIDA. That way everyone
in the chain makes a profit, and we endusers do not get scalped.
For those of you that know Bill Crabtree, aka MR. BILL [like Bill Ladd] sound him out[for us]. I'm sure he will not turn down making a buck.
MR BILL knows George Payne well, and the people at Discovery, and that cannot hurt.

If "everyone in the chain makes a profit", how do the end users avoid getting scalped? Why can't we buy direct from Discovery? That way we don't wind up paying the middle men. I would order a 5 or 6 inch coil for the Id-Edge today.

There are prices I consider more reasonable, like what we pay for FRL loops from dealers, as opposed to WOT or Excellerators prices. You have a person with a $600 detector; what is he more likely to be willing to spend on a searchcoil, $80-$100, or $ 200-$400 and up? Granted you spend $3500 on a detector, $500-$1000 would probably be reasonable to you-its all relative. The bottom line is there must be an incentive. They could still be making BFOs, CHEAP, but who would buy them? Personally, I will not pay Florida $250 for a 5" loop for ANY detector.
As to buying directly from Discovery or ANY factory, they all charge full retail, and besides I think they have other things they would rather be concerned with.

I'm in the market for Coinstrike and Edge coils and would buy from Mr. Bill in a New York minute. From Florida????? Wellllll, that might be a deal breaker. Hope it doesn't come to that.

Besides, MR. BILL is a delight to chat with on the phone.

In most cases the 5" coils take the most labor to make, at least that's what I was told. There the most difficult, so more labor, then it stands to reason higher price.

Example; The 8" Discovery coil list for $69.95, the 5.5", $149.95. :surprised:

Hey Old Tymer, where do you get this "scalp" word from? :pulltab: Do you know any dealers that are scalping you? I bet if you order direct from the factory, your cost will be higher than making a purchase from a dealer.

Mr. Bill

is the easiest loop to build, with 3 windings, each stacked atop the other that would solve this problem with a small loop and give us one that can be used nearer other metal and shielded from all electrical interference.
Charles Garrett used to joke that good models to base his Co-axs on were
multi-containers of X-mas ribbons. [Funny thing- a company a few years back built some loops with the windings mounted on cardboard, and once they heated up or got banged around...you can imagine.]

It takes more time, and we are forgetting about the size. Dam small to work with, and no room.

A 5"/6" coil from Jimmy Sierra is close to $200. It's a coax ??

In either case any coil is not going to be cheap by yesterdays standards. If you want to play, you will have to pay. Anyone gearing up to make such a small amount of coils needs to get his investment returned. Just how many coils do you think would be sold, I bet it wouldn't make 25. Optional coils have been a real poor selling item for all company's. Because of this, combined with the soft economy, they have been real slow to warm up to this.

Mr. Bill

were to come up with a 5" coil in the $150 range, I would be interested. $250 is just too much. An Ace250 with a 6x9 and a 4.5 coil can almost be had for that, and it's no slouch for the money. :D

I think we should all really pressure Fisher to make the coil. They already have the molds, fixtures, tooling and knowhow. It's just a matter of convincing them to do it. There seems to be a lot of lip service for a small coil, but when it really comes down to pushing for it, how many do? How many have emailed John Chernekoff, at Fisher, asking for one since I posted on the 2nd?

OldeTymer

JIMI "C" is a specialty company, and doesn't go for big orders. Garrett has small loops, and are USA made and inexpensive. I could quote so many sources on making co-axs.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz yawn...... but two will do, Charles Garrett and Ty Brook.

Bill,if it is so much of a task to bring out a new coil why did Fisher not use the 8" Coinstrike coil on the Edge and the Excell? Why change freqs and have to design a new coil?If a small size coil is hard to make,I`ll settle for a 6" or 6.5"especially if it were a coax since its reduced edge effect makes it perform like a smaller coil in trash anyway.

Hi Joe

I have no idea. It makes no rime or reason. Only the powers at Fisher can explain it.

True the small coil is harder, but they could still make it, they have the know how.
