The last thing I expected to find at the beach tonight...

...a '61 Washington in great shape! Go figure!

It was a real deepie in the dry sand; a very faint hit between the trash and I almost passed it up. Funny thing is, I dug a couple of scoops out and it completely disappeared no matter which way I swung the coil. I've come across that before with dimes on edge so I moved the sand around with my foot and bingo... clear as day :)

I've discovered that they get disturbed and lie a different way and harder to detect after soil or sand is moved, so 'tis best just to keep digging and looking! I know when I was a newbie back in 1980, joined the coin club in 1981, I left silver in the ground because I got frustrated in trying to find it once I dug a hole. Most were probably standing on their sides at the side of the holes! Live and learn as a person gets experience! Hope the next person found what I left and I'm sure they did!

God Bless!

Nice find, Joe! I would think it would be rare to find old coins on the beach as often as they are hunted. I would say that is a great example of the depth of the Explorer and the fact that you are becoming more accustomed to it.

I had a lot of trouble with silver coins with my Whites machines, they would pinpoint in the center of the hole I dug and would actually be about 6 inchs to the side.

I'm glad you've had a chance to get out!
