The last couple of hunts

We hunted a yard and picked up some clad and a wheat then I went to hunt a city park dated 1857, obviously hunted hard by others. Nothing found deeper than 5 inches, no wheats or Indians, nothing, but a couple of silvers were missed that the V3 picked up. What was odd is once or twice a year I have found silver that looks like a normal dirty silver dime until I start to clean it. Then it turns almost pure white as soon as water hits it, as was the case here. Since the dime was a "41", no harm was done taking a wire brush to it and the the white came off to reveal a shinny merc, but a close look shows the dime was lightly "eaten away" by whatever turned the dime white.

I have dug a couple of "those" dimes, too, Larry. Wondered myself why they were so "white" looking. Didn't brush them, tho.

Makes you think it's in our mineralized soil somehow.

When I found silver coins that were coated like that and pitted,it usually was in soil where people dumped their coal ashes back in the days when homes were heated by coal stoves and furnaces

Interesting thought Ed, thanks.

Hi Ron, I think it is more than just our soil, I'll have to give some thought to what Ed said. How's the hunting in the Rockies?
