The iron is killing me and my sand shark

I didnt realize how many chunks of iron are in the gulf of mexico......I dig 10-1 iron over anything else.....

I think i'm going to let it go, only had it a month..... If anyone is interested pm me.....

I have s sov gt for the beach and love it, no iron in my finds bag...... I guess i'll get an excal for the water....

Don't think i'll be able to match the depth of the ss, I dig some really deep holes w/ it....

I guess it's live and learn.....

great machine, ive been there dug a fishing weight at about 2 feet, its hard on the body for sure, a cz21 is a good choice as well.

I did the exact opposite as you. I had the excal and got rid of it and went back to my Sand Shark and Tiger Shark. I was tired of not finding any gold chains with the Excal. I was also not happy with the service of Minelab. I love the dependability of the Tesoro water detectors The Tesoro lifetime warranty is tops and American Made. Can't get that with Minelab.

But that's just me.

How far have you traveled with the hunts using the Sand Shark?

I've seen some beaches filled with iron, then move half a mile and they were not bad at all with the iron. With the Sovereign you should be able to hear the threshold null on iron. How much that happens on targets in the wet sand area will give you an idea if you want to take the Sand Shark out to play in the water.

Sand Shark is deeper in the water than Excal. CZ does a good job too. My thoughts, opinion: you may want to add another detector and keep the Sand Shark for hunting when the conditions suit the Sand Shark a little better.

People who want a salt machine will sometimes jump at PI detectors because they tend to be less expensive than the dual or multi-frequency VLF beach machines.

Some regret their decision because as you have discovered the PI offers amazing depth and sensitivity but absolutely no discrimination.

Some places are bad for iron flakes, but others are not. Beaches vary and if all beaches had an iron problem, PI detectors would stop being made because no one would want them.

The Sovereign is a first rate beach detector for dry and wet sand, just don't get it wet, which is a constant threat at the beach.

If you're in that boat, I'd honestly save up another $400 and buy the Excalibur, and never have to worry about water or sand getting my control box again.

Good luck to you!
