The Headhunter Pirate Pro True beep & dig water hunter

Not to be compared to the depth monsters. Didn't get it for depth so much. Its great for surf hunting. Light, sturdy, controls in the headphone. Very easy on arms and shoulders. Working the surf line became to notice depth isn't all that important. Ya got targets bleeding up or very shallow. So on these days why lug around a bunch of weight. Today I was able t hunt further than usually. Buck 39 and a 6.6 G. 14K pendant. Only about 3-4 inches deep right in the wash. Heavier machine, I wouldn't have made it down the shore that far. I would compare the Pirate with the Mojave, big difference, the controls located in splash proof headphones. Surprisingly quiet in salt water. Vlf

I agree with all of your comments. I have a Detectorpro Underwater with the 8" coil and I find it a real pleasure to use. It is great at discriminating out the junk. I find it hits on gold the hardest and discriminates the best at a discrimination setting of 3 1/2. I don't see any increase of depth on gold at lower discrimination settings and it actually hits harder and deeper on gold at 3 1/2 than on 0 discrimination. Also, as you mentioned, it runs very quietly in the saltwater surf at a sensitivity setting of 7 to 8, which still gives good depth on gold rings.
I miss the old Detectorpro forum. When I emailed admin about it being dropped, they said to post in this forum. I think you might be the first member to post a Detectorpro post here.

The Pirate Pro looks like a nice machine. I checked out the specs and was surprised that the operating frequency was pretty low -- 2.4KHz if I recall correctly. I think that's lower than most machines these days but if it works, it works!

I believe Ithe detectorpro is similar in performance to the Fisher 1280 X which is also operates somewhere around 2.4khz.
The low frequency is why it is ok over the wet sand. You may find that it does not like black sand so much

Thanks foggy I'm gonna do the 3 1/2 discrimination starting tomorrow. Well it's a real fun machine. It's been reduced to $300 recently.
Ps My shoulder feels great.

Being made in China, I'll be interested to hear how the Pirate Pro holds up over time. I do like the concept of these detectors very much.

Had an original Wader, the PI unit with both the 8 and 11 inch coils, and an Underwater. They are cool detectors to use. Wish the sensitivity knob wasn't segmented though, so you could fine tune it.

I like running them 'sparky', just at the edge of being unstable. But you have to settle on either an 8 or 9...cant' run them at lets say 8 1/2. At least from what I remember.

Met Gary awhile back in a detector shop when he had an Underwater prototype. The on board batteries, heavy duty ear cups sealed and the option of getting one with either an 8 inch or 12 inch coil was cool.

The Pirates are really nice for the price. Can run them all day with no fatigue.

Glad you like yours Dancer. They are fun machines to hunt with.

As foggy & the rover suggested . A little discrimination & the iron starts to crack up which starts saving a lot of time. Also the Headhunter has a little better depth than I expected. It nulls on long iron. Question left is like miser said , can it hold up? I got till end of February to find out. It's been scoring some nice clad days , couple days ago big gold layered Stirling ear ring. Truthfully haven't dug anything most other machines couldn't, but being so much lighter. I strut on the way back instead of dragging myself. (70) next month.
