The Hamptons New York

I'm considering renting a house up in the Hamptons next summer. Do they have any rules against metal detecting?

If you can get access to the beach - you are free to detect.
All farm land is private and the Hampton's cops show NO mercy to trespassing, besides in the summer the land will be in crop.

You will have to get a metal detecting permit. It is from Jones Beach out through Long Island. If you are in the High and Low tidal areas they can't stop you, But you need access to the beach. You don't want your car towed , or given a ticket for finding a handful of change. You can look it upon line for your beach metal detecting permit. I think it's $10.00. Individual towns don't want their towns people disturbed. Early morning or late afternoon when the crowds leave. Give the town a call at parks and rec. to verify or police. Good Luck.

Live on Long Island all my life and detect there all the time and never had a problem (40years) The Hampton's may be a different story, a lot of privately owned beach front property.

Permits are only required for the State and the County beaches - even though no one ever gets checked for one. Worst case you leave the beach if requested.
In the Hamptons - as stated earlier ACCESS to the beach is minimal. There are a few streets that have beach access at the end. However - parking is severely restricted and without proper parking sticker you WILL be ticketed and towed.

If your renting a house no problem with parking. Leave your car in the drive & walk to the beaches. T he beaches are pvt. owned for communities & there is Suffolk county beach. This beach you can park but there is a fee, I 'm not sure of the price but it's more then I pay for I have a suffolk county green card. But before all is said & done I would contact the local chamber to be 100% sure
I have detected here & parked at a friends home & walked, no problem.

Thanks for the info on the Hamptons. Question is can you park now and can you enter the beaches of The Hamptons? Legally?

Renting is very expensive some houses can go up to 25,000 a month in summer once did get a Tiffany ring years back parking is almost non exsisting get a mountain bike with lock u will do good
