The ground is not frozen in Michigan

Out of curiosity today I sunk my lesche relic shovel thru 15 inches of snow and it sunk into the ground. So I took my 1955 Ford 600 and cleared a 10 by 10 section and had a hard time with it. I took my new nautilus DMC11B and tried it out. I found a .22 case and a unidentified piece of brass out at impressive depth, which is pretty good considering I thought I cleaned out every bit of non iron from this spot with at least a dozen other detectors and coil combinations. Just thought I would give a little encouragement to people who are snowed in, when the snow melts, we can dig because the ground is not froze.

I have 5 gallon water buckets just left out over night solid ice.Two layers of ice in a 10inch base of snow before you even reach the ground. At this point the temp isn't getting above freezing.Welcome to the forum and good luck.By the way what part of Michigan are you from.

I am in central Michigan, Montacalm county. We have a lot of snow still but the ground is not frozen here. It probably is in wind swept areas but I am protected by a lot of pines. Hopefully this weather breaks soon. I have never had cabin fever this bad. I went ice fishing this week, we had about a foot of ice but the top 6 inches looked a little rotten, So We have about 6 inches of good ice. Enough for some people but not me, I have fallen thru twice in my life, once where I could not feel the bottom. I sure am glad every winter is not like this. I go and buy a new metal detector in February and have to be content playing with it in the house. Well good luck to everybody in the spring.

Oxford MI the ground is like steal.Your ground must be dry.I use to race motorcycles on ice the ice on the lakes can be very hazardous.
