When Johnboy decided he was growing up, and out growing the gravel pit, he changed just a bit. He thought girls were "cute" and he thought he was pretty cute too. (Well, actually, he was, but I wasn

...they were kind of a differant looking bike, possibly made in Europe, definitly not common during that time. See you ojm

Thank you Linda! How can you tell such a fine story so succintly, in so few words? I'm envious!

sure amazes me the memories the posts on this forum awaken.
You are very lucky to have such a loving family. I never had that, my brothers and were never close. It is a shame but just the way it is. It will never change.
You are rich indeed!!

If i remember correctly PEPSI bought out Rc cola......and yep it and a zero was a tasty treat.....remember the big 16 oz MR COLA ?

I have been pretty busy too but a really delightful story. Thank you
all the best

didn't keep anything like that around our house. It was just too expensive, so to get a RC or coke was a real treat! That's why, when I was little, I vowed when I got to be an adult, I would buy all the CocaCola I wanted. Well, I did, and am addicted to them like an alcoholic is to alcohal. I kept one in my hand constantly.
Last year, I gave them up, and within two weeks had lost fourteen pounds. Now, I drink mostly water, and sometimes a diet coke. But I sure love the real thing to this day!

I do realize how blessed I am, and I thank God for it everyday. I don't know what I would do without my brothers!
Everyone's childhood is different. But what really matters is the end result. If we learn love, kindnss, compassion, and appreciation, then we become a product of our own making!
With what little you have spoken of, you found a way to grow into quite a man! That speaks volumes in itself!

having "the gift of gab" I guess. Sometimes my stories are not put very eloquently, but that's what I like about this forum. No judging, just caring!

myself, but I remembered the name. My long term memory is good, but my short term is a shambles, probably because of all the medication I have been having to take the past year. But, I just want my girls and grandchildren to remember an easier, slower time, and there's no better way than to write it down.
When I first started posting on this forum, I copied two poems and a letter my daddy left for us kids. I wish I had had more. And, of course, we didn't have the electronic gadgetry back then, so I do not have my mother and daddy on video. How I long for that! So, I vowed my children and Grandchildren would have something they could hang onto. This has been the best thing for me to do so!

can always go there to see your story's and just your thoughts. Some people set them up to just use as a diary.

Yup, that ole' Jawa was a good 'un. I rode that thing (a 125cc) all the way through junior high school.
That machine equates into good stories. The things I did on it and the close calls Linda and Tom and I had on it made we wise up to NEVER allow my kids to have one.
They got a 125cc four-wheeler once, but nothin' for the street--that's for SURE!
I remember that Daddy paid about $200 bucks for it and I can't remember what happened to it. I suppose he sold it to Lloyd Clark for scrap.
Great story. One thing...I had a change of cloths at jr. high. You shoulda thought ahead!
ILY, (really)

fella back then; in fact, I was so little that I remember riding on the gas tank of that Jawa feeling all so safe in between my big brothers arms!
One of the rides that I can remember, we first stopped by Doug Whites house to get him to go. He owned one of them fancy mopeds!

the Honda 125 that Daddy bought for me from Lloyd Clark. His son Mark had already rode the $#$$^ out of it! I think Daddy gave him $150 for it. I got it when I was 13 i think. No major wrecks--just the usual gravel under the palms thing!
What an idiot I was on it. I used to cut across I-30 on it all the way to the other service road. Just lucky to have survived!
Then again, I used to outrun every cop in Benton on it and Daddys trail 90 by cutting through the Gravel Pit! After the road to the gravel pit was finally closed, they piled up 2 large piles of dirt at each end. I would jump the piles and park behind the house!
Thanks for a good story Sis--It brought back lots of memories!

PS Love the shoes!

It appears that Arkie John did the right thing on taking you for another ride on that motorcyle. great story, I am enjoying these gravel pit stories. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas)
