The good, the bad, and the ugly:detecting:

Here's Saturday's hunt stuff. I usually only post the good targets, but decided to post all of the finds, good, bad or downright ugly!! I noticed a lot of newbies here and wanted them to know, "the more you dig the more you find". I wish only good targets would come out of the ground. That and being rich and world peace would make my day. So lots of fun (minus the deer fly that stalked us all day long) and some good finds too. Some nice finds from my friend included an Indian and a gorgeous Shield nickle.HH

Nice, looks like a lot of good relics in there! Good spot.

Way cool finds. I noticed the spoon at the top of the pic, is it silver? The reason I ask is because I have three just like it, not dug but from an estate I bought 10 years ago.

HH, twalton

I think it is misleading sometimes only showing the good finds, show the hard work......

it looks like you had a very good day out, coinnut! you have a nice variety of relics there too. it looks like a lot of the old stuff i find all the time! i like the '63 indian too, the ground where your're at seems gentler on the old coins than the ground here. nice hunt, coinnut! hh,

Cellar holes is what I do mostly. This one produced about 20 coins now, between the three of us, and a couple of dozen buttons. Not to mention the other odd brass, lead, etc... No silver yet. I guess it's waiting for me to splurge on that new Explorer I want for Christmas.:bouncy:

Just these sites on one side of the state are good to coins. The other end of the state produces what we have termed "DOGMEAT!!" If that Indian was found there, it would be a dateless slug. So needless to say, I stay away from those areas.

If I showed all the hard work, they'd throw me out for boring them with tons of junk:rofl: But I guess you are entitled to your opinion. Not misleading anyone unless I say "all I find is good stuff".... and I don't recall ever saying anything like that.

Not many spoons are silver. Most are plated, some so heavily that you would swear they are silver, but usually somewhere on the edge you will see a scratch or chip, and you can see the base metal. Most spoons that are silver are either marked silver or hallmarked. Not much from the past to present, that is silver, is not marked in one way or another. Mine are all plated. This site where everything was found, was active from colonial days to around the late 1860's.
