The Golden uMax wont find nuttin

Hi David ! Looks like you had a little fun with the Golden. I am anxiously awaiting for the ones I ordered for the shop to get here. I think by just reading what you and Mike post about them I will really like the Golden. That is the reason I had not stocked any yet because you don't hear about them much at all. Thanks for the pics David and have a good evening my friend.

I like the way you put together your reports

The pictures make a nice background for the comentary.

Sounds to me like you are becoming a 'Golden Paladin' cheers:

Got a Golden-u ?

...I wont be passing on the Golden to someone else, just yet, Mike! I like it enough to keep on it for the requisite 25 hours. I cut my teeth on a Tesoro and have always liked them, especially those in the middle. Most recently, my fav was the SS uMax. I can be happy totin' the Golden...

I DO think that there are two improvements that the Golden could absorb:
1. Wider separation on the tones. It's not a biggie, but it could help others make more of it.
2. An adjustable GB that functions in the DISC mode. You and I have discussed that before and I expect I'll consider it again.

Glad you enjoyed the info.

Can you tell me about that? Does it merely shift them all evenly, or actually aaffect them individually? Which pot is it, by the way? I think Id like to give it a try, if it could help with the only other real fault of the machine, besides not having a GB.

It shifted the tones evenly. Evidently someone had tinkered with it before I got it, or it was set wrong from the factory, as the entire tonal range was shifted toward the lower tones. That made high coins - dimes, quarters and higher - give a mix of the two highest tones and what should have been the second lowest tone was also a mix with the lowest tone. Both notch modes were off from where they should have been, even the wide notch range couldn't be adjusted to reject zinc cents. In the photo, the blue pot in the red circle is the ground balance pot. The blue pot lower to the right adjusts the tones and notch so go very slow as it only takes a small amount of turn to make a difference. Take the faceplate screws out and the entire faceplate will lift up enough to give access to the pots.

I'd add one more improvement; change the notch so that it's like the GS2 or Pantera. Make it full range (adjustable from iron into silver) so that any target can be nixed and use the toggle switch as narrow/of/wide. ...Willy.

I appreciated the mobile notch on the GS2. Keeping the width function and making it mobile wold be a nice way to go, too.
