The Ghost is back

The other day I posted that I had done the pinpoint mod and the threshold would not stay steady. I found the problem and fixed it. this past weekend I got out for a while and everything was normal.
I turned her on last night and the threshold was again all over the place. It will still hit on objects with the correct tone but goes right back into erratic threshold. I took it apart again but can not find a problem.
So I was going to undo the threshold mod unless someone can tell me what to look for. The mod was from Critterhunter on the Mods forum with the recommended parts.

Thanks, Jeff

It sounds like you are picking up EMI from the long wire for the pinpoint switch to the handle.
If you put a stereo jack on the body of your GT, does the wavering threshold settle down when you disconnect the plug?

You could run a ground wire to the shield on the cable. That can easily be done even if you are using a stereo jack so that the grounded shield continues up to the remote switch when its plugged in.
The outer shell of the jack and base of the plug will be connected to the shield, the two contacts (middle and tip) of the plug will be your switch wires.

I'm not sure about the mod because all I found was a text post about it by Critter. I hate reading text instructions without a schematic.
