Just recieved my new Pro-pointer today and laid to rest my old Harbor Frieght pin-pointer.

Took the Garrett Pro-pointer out for a test run; I can

I've been wanting to purchase a decent pin-pointer,I to use the Whites bullseye and am not impressed. Thanks for the info Katz HH

hello nick A, i have been thinking about buying the garret pro pointer but sure would like to know more about the noise u are talking about. is it the sound it makes when it detects the object or???? I dont suppose it has a quiet vibrate mode ? would appreciate if u could elaborate on that ( noisy thing as u called it) thanks nick......

I would hope it has a silent mode or a volume control, but I did not get to talk to the guy about it. I looked around on the internet and it appears it does not have a volume control, it's just a loud and annoying little pinpointer. I see one guy has even posted on a website about a modification to reduce the volume you can probably find this if you google "Reducing The Speaker Volume on The Garrett Pro-Pointer".

About the sound on the Pro-Pointer, if you have it too close to your detector you will
hear a buzzing/static sound, otherwise its a quiet little pointer. Also you have to be careful not to get it close to your digging knife.
I've had mine 5 to 6 inches away from the knife and the pointer goes off. It's VERY sensitive.

I've found every target with the pro-pointer. I cant say that about the cheapo Harbor Frieght pointer, but then again what
can one expect for $15.95.

yes the pro pointer is a great work of enginering , i traded mine for my musketeer so i dont have one now but thats what i would get again if you want to get extra depth on your pro pointer you can tape a dime to a string and inch it close to whear it stars to beep and you will get much extra depth

One man's "loud and annoying little pinpointer" is another man's tough little gem. Obviously I am another man.

Like Gunnar said you can use the coin trick to increase the sensitivity and get better depth.

What's does the same thing and is easier than the coin for me is to put my digging blade flush against the propointer and then pull it to the bottom until it stops sounding off. Then you'll get an extra inch or so of depth.

If your impresed by the garrett just wait till you try the sunray inline or uniprobe, big $$$ but well worth it. Don't forget to store it straight away, you wouldn't be the first to leave it lying on the ground after pulling out a good find and walk on.

There are good pin pointers on the market but not at bargain prices.I never could understand someone who gets an expensive detector and buy a cheap pin pointer.HH Ron

Well folks, risking being known as a negative Nelly, and not "throwing rocks" at anyone, (there I've been politically, democratically, correct), let me say this, " I'd wager that no one out there, with the exception, of folks in Arizona and Australia, will EVER find enough goodies to pay off their Mine Labs, Garrett pointers and other, top of the line? paraphernalia. I'd sure hate to have to tell my beautiful wife, with the big cutie-pie eyes, that makes you sweat when you make contact with 'em, where a big chunk of our savings went. Hen-pecked? Maybe, but this hen is worth it! Hey, if I lived in Arizona, or if I made trips to Australia selling the Aussies Boomerangs, you bet I'd have this stuff. And my problem with Propointer is if when I was looking for a pinpointer, if someone would have offered me one for $127.44, I'd probably own one now, but it looks like it's plastic hand-shovel, unless something comes along. So there ! Another opinion, for whatever it's worth. C ya, Nelly..

I didn't know that was the point. I was playing with RC planes for a while as a hobby and as hard as I tried, I didn't find any goodies with it. Maybe I needed to learn it better.

The Garrett is obnoxiously loud. Easy solve though. Put some electrical tape on the speaker vents and it tames it right down. You don't need to hear it through your headphones because when it's near something it'll make your hand feel like you grabbed a wire with a little too much voltage. I like my inline better but that's one sweet little probe and it works with any machine. Jim

I'm glad its loud. I have a hearing loss anyway. Even with
the pro-pointer I still have to strain to hear it when I have it in the
hole searching out the coin.:)-)
