The Fisher F2, an almost unsung hero...

I just purchased an F2 and I'm surprised to see only a handful of videos on Youtube about it.

She's a great detector and comes from a good lineage (I think the F75 was the Stud.)

This article shows just that.

http://www.detektor.no/METALLDETEKTOR-TEST-F2.PDF

She's a straight (coin) shooter.

I've dug 7" deep quarters and 6" deep dimes so far......using the 8" coil (30 hrs used since 12/25/09) and it can definately go deeper.

All three coils (4, 8, and 10") have great depth too!!

I've been getting lazy and notching out the zinc pennies, foil, tabs, and gold rings (you have to leave something to go back for...lol.)

Let me put it like this........my next upgrade for more features for the buck would have to be the F75.

The Double-D is really all it missing from it's bigger brothers.

Sim - the difference between the F2 and it's big brothers is more than just the 11" DD, but...

You no doubt made an excellent choice with your first machine!

When you do decide to move up, take a good look at what the longtime experienced hunters do well with.

All of the F-series detectors I've used have target separation abilities that are state-of-the-art.

And don't put a lot of stock in what you read about depth.

There's a lot of tall tales out there.

The two that stick out in my mind as particularly tall (and reported on this forum) are the guy finding coins up to 25" and regularly at 14-16" with his Garrett GTI 2500:wacko:.

And the guy using a cen-Tech pinpointer (the $15.00 Harbor Freight unit) and getting 6" with it:rolleyes:.

There's a lot of people on this forum who are better and more experienced at dirt fishing than me.

I don't exaggerate depth and try to pay close attention to probing carefully and seeing deep targets before I pull them out (ever since I put a big scratch in an XF Barber dime.) The deepest coin I've ever found is 9".

So if somebody more experienced and better at this than me says they found a coin a little bit deeper I can believe it.

But when somebody on one of the forums says they found a dime at 12" with their Ace 250, maybe I wouldn't be my life they didn't but...I'd have to see it dug:blowup:to believe it.

I'd like to elaborate on the comment i made concerning the differences between it's big brothers....

What I meant was that the additional options offered by upgrading to another "F" series did not, in my humble opinion, seem justified, unless I were to upgrade to an F75 (which, I have to admit, I've never used, and one this self-employed construction contractor won't be able to afford anytime soon.)

Target ID, seperation, and overall depth are fantastic for a detector in this entry-level price-range.

It's a fitting replacement for my old Tesoro Cutlass2 ($200, 16 years ago).

I used to have the F4, which is the F2's big brother, and it was a fine machine. The F2 isn't related to the F75 though. The F2/F4/F5/O8 were all derived from the bounty hunter platform. The T2/F75 were completely new FT/Fisher designs.

When I had my F4 I picked up the 10" BH coil on Amazon for $30 and it was a great coil, super ground coverage and great depth, killer coil for covering big turf areas.

Enjoy the F2,
Brian

Sim player. Any chance you could do a free air distance comparison of the 8inch verses the 10 inch. Maybe with 2 standard American coins.? As a reference for me i was going as far away from the coil whilst still retaining a constant and accurate ID number. With my 8 inch in air I was loosing the accuracy of a quarter dollar after about 4 1/2 inches. it was rock solid inside that distance.. Anybody else with a 10 inch and a 8 inch feel free to join in.
Thanks :ausflag:
