The First Hunt

Yeah, UPS delivered my CTX yesterday from Crawfords, so spent the rest of the day pushing buttons, doing coin air tests and getting to know "Dora" (Does anybody else name their detector, I suppose I may as well call my Garrett carrot, Boots)

So, I got up very early this morning (05:30) to do the local school playing field. I knew I'd be a bit self-conscious doing this (hopefully that'll disappear) so that's the reason I went out so early, didn't wanna be observed. Honestly, I spent about 90 minutes in a small patch and found €1.91 and 80p odd (punt)

Loads of trash, the CTX was telling me it was trash but as I was in training mode I had to dig a bit up just to confirm, will never doubt you again Dora, lol

Took out the full size "Evolution" spade, when I should have armed myself with the short trowel as the finds were mainly 3-4 inches and clay was soft, lesson learnt. The Garrett was spot on and saves a lot of poking around.

Had a ball especially when the first tone that I dug were the two 10p (salmon) coins from a pocket spill I guess.

Cheers

Good job, you have started off well. In time you will stop caring what people are thinking about you while you are detecting.

I don't, but my wife names all my detectors after the first movie props that come to her mind... :)

The CTX is the 'Nimbus 2000'...the TDI is the 'Millennium Falcon'...the Deus was the 'Enterprise'...etc.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a little anthropomorphism in this hobby....detectors do tend to have personalities, after all.

Have fun,
:)

Good to see Dora and you are hitting it off good , never named my detectors but some got some choice words welcome I hope to see more post . sube

i call my CTX , Mack, Tank, Road train you get the picture but i say with a semi  grin get it semi ok enough i know :cheekkiss:

when i am finding heaps of stuff i don't give a banana who is watching , if i am finding bugga all and some one sits down to watch i yell out bugga off home and watch the telly mate this isn't the latest reality TV show

really detecting has helped no end with my attitude problem :poke:

but in all fairness want to get over worrying about what people think of you buy a detector or just go in the middle of winter in the dark of the new moon don't run in to too many people willing to come see what's going on, coppers have seen me plenty of times i just wave smile and keep going never had a problem.

but yes i do detect when the sun shines and people do look but if i care if what they are thinking and reality is i have no idea what they are thinking unless they tell me, i take it as it comes most people who come for a chat are nice get the odd smarta$$ who i just turn my back on and walk away my time is mine and i don't owe anyone anything so wallys get what the deserve from me i think its called nothing :clapping:

so yes feels a bit strange at 1st but reality is i spend a lot of time looking at the ground so i don't see them unless i think i need too.

and really my timing on when and where i detect is key and that comes with experience

and after all that i am hurting nobody picking up rubbish for free and getting a bit of exercise so win win  cant really get locked up for committing a community service can you??

ok i done i think LOL
