Last week I spoke for the 5th graders of an Elementary School near Quonset Rhode Island. They had just finished studying the American Revolution, so I made sure I presented mainly Colonial relics to let them hold pieces of history for a day. They were especially excited to hold an actual British cannonball from the Revolution. I also demonstrated how a metal detector works, how I started when I was about their age, & anyone can be successful.....I brought the F75 with me.
Here's what my presentation set-up looks like....lots of glass display cases. Hey, who's that guy on the TV:blush:

I usually open my talks with "The Antiques Roadshow" video, as it kinda gives me instant credibility & draws ooh's & aahh's when they see what my most valuable relic finds get appraised for....
I speak for about an hour, then take questions for at least 1/2 hour.....then I allow students to come up front & gather around my tables for a closer look of my smaller relics in display cases...

I let them ask further questions, hold musketballs & Civil War bullets, try the detector, and I pass out metal detector catalogs to all the students. Seems like every little boy says he's going home to ask for a "medtle" detector

I always ask the teachers if they can have their students write letters to tell me what they liked about my talk. You may remeber the one that was reprinted in Fisher World News. I have gathered up thousands of these now, & I keep them all. They are often quite funny, and a real "treasure" in themselves....Often that's the only "compensation" I get which is fine as seeing their faces light up makes it all well worth it!

This school had some talented artists as well......these "stick figure" detectorists are great! Hey, that's not a bad F75 there...looks like a DD coil to me he remembered the LCD sticking up & the arm cup....does that look like me?

Here's another nice letter & drawing all in one Way to go Hayden. Hayden also loved the "meadl detector"

I have another school to do next month, & I'm working on doing even more schools & clubs. I think it's a great way to put my artifacts to good use, & to get kids excited about the hobby......

Bill
