The Excal pays for itself again !! Old Gold, ICE and Silver

Skully

New member
[size=large]Started off dry-sanding at the drained lake, picked up a silver ring, junk toe ring, keys, sunglasses, etc.
Wind was unbearable so I decided to wait and go LOOTIN' at the old lake at night with the Excal 1000
It got down into the 30's last night but I'm geared up for the cold!! and the water temp is still in the low 60's - high 50's

Man oh man, what a find. One of the prettiest rings I've ever seen. You really do need to take it and have an appraisal done on it and while they're doing that make sure and have them check the prongs. I found a nice solitaire once and though I had it appraised apparently a couple of the prongs were in bad shape and the diamond was lost for about six months. Luckily it was found in a file folder, lol. Thanks for this, it has me all fired up to get out and hunt. :detecting:

Got this PM..Thought I post..without the author

Hi Skully,

The diamonds in your ring are called European cut stones. They date from the early 1800s to 1920. They have a small table and a culet on the pavillion ( extra facet on the rear tip ). They are deeper cut in relationship to

the diameter than a modern round brilliant which came on the scene around 1919. If you are using modern diameters to gauge ct. size with the old european cut diamond, you will come up short on actual ct. weight. The old

stones weight 15-20% more than the diameter would indicate. The bright cut and beaded mounting would indicate this ring to date around 1865 - 1900. Super nice piece you have there! I hope this info helps.
