I hear that john I've had the same issues where i hunt and have brought it up in the forum i help moderate and we are always reminding the new and seasoned detectorists about good target retrieval technique's.
 
It's a constant reminder here too. There are always new people getting detectors, and they need to be aware of this issue. So, it will be showing up time and time again.
