The Easiest Way To Get Banned From Locations Is Poor Target Retrieval....This Should Help:detecting:

Thats how i do it,,,plugging that is. No problem if there is moisture in the ground. But,,,,, If the ground is really dry,,,, I don't think there is a method to retrieve a target without killing the grass. (maybe a probe ,which I don't use,,so I don't know)
Keep this in mind if you don't already know,,,or take it as a reminder. It will look OK for a few hours after,,,but if it don't rain within a day. It will turn brown and die.

There are many of us that detect a place and then don't return to it . Its a terrible thing to see.

And yes,,,I did it in my own yard years ago. It was suppose to rain the next day,,but did not. It looked bad for a few weeks,,but it does mend itself. I glad it was my yard.

Its good to have places that can be detected when real dry,,,like beaches ect... Now-a-days I have been detecting so little,,I wait for it to rain before I go.. Its easier to dig too.

Yeah, this is great, John, thanks. Garrett really needs to do a professional target retrieval video and include it on every DVD that comes with a new detector. It's the new folks who need this right out of the chute.. and some of us crusties, too. :)

But knowing which method to use based upon ground/grass/soil type is also critical.

I'm not a fan of probes, but I do have a couple homemade ones using brass rods which bend more easily, but which won't generally scratch coins due to the composition of the metal.
